It’s finally your wedding day. After months and months of planning, scouring every wedding website known to man, emailing your maid of honor way too many times, the day has arrived. Nicole Waldron, owner of Classic Image Photography, has a few practical pointers to help you take the best possible photographs so that you look back at them with a smile.
POSTURE MATTERS
Be aware of your posture at all times, even when you aren’t in front of the camera.
CHIN UP
When laughing or smiling, don’t pull your chin back. Even if you don’t have a double chin, that pose will give you several! Keep your shoulders back and down, and extend your neck.
SMILE!
Be aware of your face and smile at all times; candid shots will look better and there will be more opportunities for spontaneous moments.
BE AFFECTIONATE
Don’t be afraid to hug, kiss or get close to the groom. Let the photographer capture your relationship.
PUCKER UP
Have lip gloss/lipstick handy and reapply often, keeping lips kissable.
TEST RUN
Makeup will be darker and more dramatic than normal. Do a test run with your makeup artist and snap some shots yourself, just to see how the makeup looks in photos.
BE PREPARED
Make sure to have your makeup handy, especially if you’ve been crying (a totally acceptable reaction to the emotion of the day!) Have press powder/oil sheets on hand to blot your face, especially if it is a hot day.
GLOW NATURAL
Don’t over tan; you don’t want to look orange.
ENERGIZE
Don’t forget to eat and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. It’s an easy thing to forget and if you don’t stay nourished and hydrated, a lack of energy will definitely show up in the photos.
MAKE SURE YOU CLICK!
Get to know your photographer ahead of time, you want to be sure it’s someone you can work well with - you’ll be spending all day together!
HAIRSPRAY
Have some hairspray on hand for touch ups.
KEEP MOVING
Don’t be afraid to move in front of the camera. Photos will vary greatly depending on the slightest movement of your head, shoulders and hips.
KEEP IT LOW
Hold flowers at your stomach with a little bit of bend in your arms; this slims your arms. Just make sure the flowers aren’t so high that parts of your dress or face are covered.
VEILED
Long veils are great for photos, especially if you have heavier arms. Veils are also great for creative shots.
INTIMATE MOMENT
If possible, arrange to see your groom before the wedding. This helps get rid of the nerves and allows more time with the photographer, as well as with your guests after the ceremony. Take a private moment with your groom in an intimate location.
MOST IMPORTANTLY...
Relax and have fun! The more your personality shows, the better the photos.
