Laura and Brian met at a charity event where they were both volunteering. Laura says, “ We were placed on the same team for a charity competition early in the afternoon, hit it off and ended up spending the entire day together.” The couple was meant to be and soon started the adventure of a lifetime.
It was on a backpacking trip through Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore when Brian popped the big question. Laura says, “After a day of hiking, we decided to watch the sunset over Lake Superior near our camp.” The couple was cuddling up watching the picturesque sunset when Brian got down on one knee. Laura said yes!
Since the couple loves the outdoors, they knew they wanted their wedding to reflect that love. Laura says, “We both enjoy the outdoors so we drew some inspiration from that – keeping everything simple with lots of greenery.” It was important to them to have endless amounts of lush greenery along with organic decor that would surround their guests with an intimate feeling.
Laura and Brian did deal with one huge issue when it came to the wedding. Two months before the big day, they received a letter from their venue. Laura says, “As we opened the letter, a refund check fell out of the letter and our jaws hit the floor. They had sold the venue and would no longer be hosting weddings.” After panicking, Laura and Brian called Loft on Lake and they had their wedding date open! It was truly meant to be. Laura says, “They were incredibly accommodating and easy to work with – it was just meant to be at Loft all along!”
Laura found her dream dress on Pinterest. She had already known that she wanted a gown with sleeves and a fitted bodice. She says, “I had found a picture of the dress on Pinterest and made it a point to go try on in store at a David’s Bridal around Christmas time when we were home with family. It was the first one I tried on and it felt perfect.”
What we love
We love that Laura and Brian paid special attention to booking their DJ. They wanted their guests to have a really fun time and, of course, to dance the night away. Laura says, “Brian attended a brunch where DJ Major Taylor was playing more than a year before the wedding and loved everything he played.” The couple booked him right away for their wedding!
Advice from the bride
Laura says, “Focus on what feels right for you as a couple – and remember to stop and enjoy the day in the moment, it goes by so fast!”
