This Classic Detroit Wedding is Full of Elegance: The Real Wedding of Ally and Andrew Margulies

Ally locked eyes with Andrew the summer after her senior year of high school. After nearly five years of friendship, they finally got together! When the pair bought their first home and were working on renovations, Andrew popped the question in their kitchen.

Because Ally had never been formal dress shopping before, she set up two appointments to begin her search; the first to see what styles she liked, the second to find the actual dress. “I shopped the racks for a while, tried on a few dresses and was kind of stumped,” Ally admits. “I was almost going to give up on the appointment when I headed back to the fitting room and noticed a dress on a mannequin right next to my fitting room. I must have walked by it ten times at that point. I knew right away it was my dress.”

The couple knew they wanted a “staycation” style wedding experience, so they searched for vendors local to the Detroit area. Ally adds, “We asked around a ton, looked at examples of other weddings and in the end, we trusted our gut when it came down to making the final decision!”

What we love

We love how Ally and Andrew had fun during their ceremony and engaged with their loved ones. “We ended our wedding night in our venue’s very own basement eight-lane vintage bowling alley, bowling and eating Coney dogs and fries with all of our closest friends till 2 a.m. The whole day was perfect.”

Advice from the couple

Ally urges future couples to enjoy the planning process with their partner. “Take mental snapshots along the way, remember where you were when you decided on details,” she adds.
