January is officially that month when we all embrace the mantra "out with the old and in with the new." From ditching old habits to creating new goals, the new year sets the stage for new beginnings. But, new beginnings are usually accompanied by a few goodbyes--some regretful and some much-needed!

We are bidding adieu to a few 2015 wedding trends that we thought we couldn't live without--that is, until we discovered the new 2016 trends that have us ushering last year's trends out the door so we can wholeheartedly embrace the new! Really, we've kind of forgotten all about 2015. Marsala, who?

(P.S. these photos signify the 2016 trends we are reallllly looking forward to, not the 2015 trends we're saying goodbye to!)

Round Tables and Traditional Seating

I know, I know, you've all been waiting since elementary school to create your own seating chart. My Type-A personality was always so curious about the decision-making process my teachers used to create seating charts. Anyway, traditional, organized seating is now a thing of the past. Sorry, fellow Type A'ers. In fact, symmetrical round tables are also a thing of the past. Instead, couples are letting loose and allowing guests to choose their own table. Floorplans will also include tables of every size and shape--from long, banquet tables to a mix of large and small round tables. Not only does this eliminate the stress of creating a seating chart, but it also leaves couples off the hook for offending guests by their seat assignment.

Matching Centerpieces

Really, matching anything is kind of an outdated trend, especially when it comes to decor. Color schemes and textures are designed more to complement, rather than match. This goes for table centerpieces, too. Rather than placing identical floral arrangements or matching lanterns on each table, couples now use a mix-and-match strategy that can implement floral centerpieces on some tables and lanterns on others! Another way to mix and match is by changing up the vases or the heights of the arrangements. By placing some tall arrangements throughout the room, complimented by shorter, less intrusive arrangements, an interesting visual element is added to the decor.

Cupcakes

Relax, people. Cupcakes will always be a thing. That Taylor Swift song that says "we never go out of style"--that's kind of my ode to the relationship I have with cupcakes. Nevertheless, just because it's not trending, doesn't mean they won't be adored and appreciated in each and every occasion of your life beyond 2015. I'm just saying, naked cakes are becoming more and more popular. At first, I didn't understand why anyone would embrace a trend that removes frosting from dessert, but I get it now: all of the layered goodness is located in the cake's interior. It's like a surprise.

Also, you will forget all about cupcakes when you are introduced to the magic that is a dessert station. This has been increasing in popularity as well, but is expected to totally replace the traditional wedding cake and the cupcake fad. From homemade baked goods to bakery-style desserts to pies to doughnuts, the list and possibilities are limitless with a dessert station. With the growing number of people who are vegan, gluten-free or just downright picky, the dessert buffet is the answer.

British-Inspired Weddings

I, for one, am so over macarons and Princess Kate. We get it, she's beautiful, she's rich, she feeds starving children. She's perfect. But can we be done copying a wedding from a real-life princess? I don't know what your wedding budget is, but most brides I know can't afford to compete with a royal wedding. So if you can't beat it, please stop trying.

Dark, Muted Colors

Like we said, bye bye Marsala! We loved you then, we'll love you again, but until then we'll just go ahead and get obsessed with 2016's metallics and shimmer. Not to mention, rose gold is pretty wonderful and we are on board with the 2016 Pantone Color of the Year: rose quartz and serenity, a mix of soft blue and light pink.
