Marissa Bruton of Velvet Jubilee came up with the concept of an Art Deco themed style shoot with nods to grandiose design and luxury style. Marissa says, “I love the luxury and elegance of the Art Deco age. Everything was over-the-top and glamorous. I was picturing a modern deco look but did not want it to look like a costume.” Marissa concentrated on bringing to life a stylish and elaborate shoot that had charisma and allure written all over it.

“I wanted something that was crisp and clean but also a bit of an industrial vibe,” notes Marissa. “This studio had just that with the exposed brick and steel windows. There were several areas to shoot that made for a great representation of the theme.” Second Level Studio presented the perfect backdrop for the shoot given the unique features it hosts. Marissa knew she could create a truly regal design within the space.

To bring the theme to life, Marissa assembled a team of creative vendors. Captured by Samantha Mitchell Photography, the team presented a larger-than-life style shoot. The florals alone offer an eye-catching arrangement. Marissa adds, “These flowers were chosen because of their large, voluminous blooms. We chose to do bright white for the clean, crisp look for the ‘modern deco’ theme.” From those bright blooms to the moody tablescape with black linens and golden accents—the entire shoot has an elite and luxurious feel.

The bridal look was equally as glamorous. Using a dramatic, smoky eye and bold, deep lip color the bride has a historic, yet edgy look. Marissa adds, “The hairstylist really wanted to showcase the vintage style hair comb I had chosen. She did a low updo and placed the comb on top so it could stand out. In order to bring in a vintage feel, she added pin curls to the front and top.” The hair and makeup helped to curate that vintage style while nodding to the modern undertones.

“A current trend I have been seeing is industrial venues,” says Marissa. “Since I wanted to try and modernize the Art Deco look, I felt like an industrial vibe would be the ‘modern’ in the ‘modern deco’ theme.” This new theme is so innovative and creative. We love that the team combined two juxtaposing styles in order to create a design that is elegant enough for weddings and edgy enough for modern couples.
