The Vision
This town might be small, but the ideas and hearts are big! Crawfordsville, Indiana took home the prize of being named the Best Wedding City of 2020 in WeddingDay's very own contest last year. The locals rallied together to show their love for their hometown, bringing us to this quaint town to host this exclusive cover shoot. The team of local award-winning vendors were excited to share their love and talent for their hometown of Crawfordsville. “We pulled inspiration through local vendors and their aesthetics,” says Crawfordsville wedding planner and florist, Vanessa Rische, owner of Copper Jade Events & Design. Vanessa and the team wanted to incorporate some West Coast trends to showcase a few unique details you normally wouldn’t find in a barn wedding. Captured by Crawfordsville photographer, Abbey Elaine Photography, this cover shoot pushes the boundaries to create a Southwestern “Modern Boho” barn vibe you won’t find anywhere else.
The Venue
The rustic atmosphere in this downhome Crawfordsville wedding venue is one-of-a-kind! Vanessa notes, “Hidden Hollow is one of the premier venues in Crawfordsville, making it an easy choice.” This open and picturesque barn has enough indoor space for you and your guests to celebrate. Step outside to the fields and hills surrounding the barn for a quick escape into a natural setting. With both indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, the opportunities for this venue are truly endless!
The Looks
These models flash a humble romantic look that is perfect for a small town with a big heart. Vanessa says, “We wanted to echo the effortless feel of bohemian in the brides’ hair and makeup.” From soft curls to elegant updos, Crawfordsville area wedding hair and makeup salon, Lavender & Hops Style Lounge, showcases an enchanting variety of boho styles. Local bridal salon, Jessica’s on Main, perfectly paired these models with a wide variety of dresses and styles, showcasing the diversity of boho and body types. The moody bridesmaids’ dresses tie into the shoot’s color scheme for one whole, bohemian bridal look.
The Florals
The muted tones of these blooms, created by Copper Jade Events, draw on the delicate side of rustic romance. The aesthetic totally captures an organic Southwestern vibe. Vanessa explains, “We based the color palette around the barn and the natural beauty of the surrounding nature. I used a lot of dried florals like pampas grass and palm fans to get the bohemian feel we were going for.”
The DÉcor
From light blush plates and modern golden flatware, this table setting holds classic elegance with a touch of whimsy. The small details—such as the tinted glasses, colored candles, and overflowing dried bouquets—provide the perfect intimate atmosphere for any reception. Looking to add a little local love to your lunch? The charcuterie display incorporated into the tablescape by Crawfordsville wedding caterer, The Juniper Spoon, was entirely Indiana grown. The rentals and linens, provided by Copper Jade Events, make the ideal boho wedding, indoors or out!
The Cake & Desserts
These desserts from Crawfordsville wedding bakery, Maxine’s On Green, are bursting with delicious flavor. The touch of the dried florals on top of this classic cake turns this confection into a work of art. “We went with a simple cake to fit the theme of the reception,” Vanessa notes. The layered cookies brushed with orange icing adds the special touch that ties the rustic color scheme together. These sweet treats double as eye-catching place cards, perfect for any wedding with a savory and sensible attitude!
