Bitter and sweet—the two tastes combined to form the beautiful theme of Honey and Whiskey at this Ohio style shoot. Photographer Sara Campbell of Sara Campbell Photography says, “We wanted a shoot that catered more towards the groom/groomsmen. A shoot that felt masculine but also something that was beautiful and brides could love as well!”

Two dresses ended up making it into this country style shoot. The original design the team picked out was to be very “girly,” but they picked a second, form-fitting dress that fit perfectly in with the theme. Sara gushes, “It complements the groom and really stole our hearts! It has a deep V in both the front and back and a beaded detail that met at the hip. It carries its own weight and brings femininity and sex appeal without stealing the show.”

Sara says she immediately thought of Blackbird Farm for a location for this shoot because it complemented the honey theme. She adds, “We love the farm/rustic feel—but also wanted to show how you could dress it up. A barn venue doesn’t have to be all about cowboy boots and wood slab centerpieces (even though they can be great!).”

While different shades of red, brown and black were used consistently throughout this shoot for an autumn tone, the team focused more on textures and patterns rather than colors. The different textures show up in little details throughout the shoot: the lace on the shoes, the invitations, thick honey and honeycomb, and crystal cut glasses. We love this creative take on a shoot’s design!

Even the bride’s makeup incorporated bits of this color scheme. Sara says, “Paige did a natural smoky eye on all of the bridesmaids using neutral tones and a touch of gold shadow! For the bride, she did more of a sultry smoky eye with neutral tones and some gold shadow on the inner corners!”

The cake in this shoot looks as sweet as honey! This two-tier culinary creation is black on the bottom, marble on the top with a lollipop honeycomb. Sara says, “Warm golden Faux honeycomb against the dark black cake brought both a modern, warm yet masculine feel!” We want to sink our teeth into that candy honeycomb!

The florals look like they were plucked straight from a grassy field. Sara notes that the team at Wallflower Design Dialogue picked out the florals for a specific feeling. Sara says, “She used the eucalyptus because she loved the way it drapes and smells beautiful, tarragon for scent and then some thistles to add a wildflower feel!”

She notes that the feathers helped bring a tone of masculinity into the flowers. The team also used multiple types of brass candlestick holders that wedding coordinator Aspen of Aspen Jean Planning picked out to add height and elegance to the tables. We love that this team included many different resources for this shoot!

Can we talk about the swag of the groom and groomsmen? We love that this team went all out when it came to styling these men. Sara says, “Blackbird Farm had a custom mobile bar top that allowed for a great whiskey lounge.” We’ll meet you there and take one on the rocks!
