Celebrate Love with this Colorful Michigan Pride Style Shoot

We love celebrating love, and this Pride-themed style shoot shows us how effortlessly! Back during Pride Month, Mechelle of Ahoyhello Photography noticed that there was little representation of the LGBTQ+ community in style shoots, which sparked an idea to create a shoot that was all-inclusive. Mechelle says, “Everyone who worked on this shoot identifies as LGBTQ+ or as an ally, and we felt it important to feature vendors who are equally supportive. We were so excited to share the diversity of our couples in the LGBTQ+ space, including members who identify as non-binary, gay, bisexual and lesbian.”

When planning this shoot, the team immediately began looking at inspirational ideas on Pinterest. “We saw very overt rainbow weddings, but no subtle and elegantly vibrant weddings,” Mechelle remembers. “We wanted to fill that gap.” The team worked to mix the aesthetics of modern and vintage together to create a timeless shoot!

Within this colorful Pride shoot, there are notes of subtle styles, including a Victorian couple, a modern couple and a pair of classic sweethearts. “Overall our goal was to do a more refined take on the Pride/rainbow flag,” Mechelle says. “We wanted to feature rainbows in unexpected ways, such as in their hair, in the floral arrangements, on the table settings, invitations and the flower wall.”

We are obsessed with the vibrant colors shown in those florals! Mechelle notes that the team wanted to infuse as much color as possible into the floral designs, without the color being too overbearing. She adds, “The flowers ended up being extremely vibrant, especially the specially-made rainbow bouquet.”

 

To the team, the decision to shoot in The Holly Vault was a no-brainer. Mechelle says they were impressed with the two buildings the venue had to offer, including a chapel with dark wood and elegant windows, and a bank reception venue which features a gorgeous bank vault/bar combo. “We loved how open and inviting the various spaces are at The Holly Vault, especially the brightness of the chapel and the intimacy of their reception space. It felt modern and vintage, which is our typical style, which we played up in the wardrobe, hair and makeup,” says Mechelle.

Each model showcases a different style of outfit, bringing a whole new level personality to this shoot. We love the variety of chic lace and bright bow ties! And we can’t forget to include a special shout-out to that stylish leather jacket!

 

The cake and stationery give off a whimsical rainbow vibe that makes us want to party! The touch of rainbow cookies is an added bonus to anyone who wants to give a sweet treat to their sweetheart.
