There's nothing better than having designated spaces in your home. During the pandemic, setting up your home office was one of the ways you separated your work from your life.

Why not do the same for your wedding planning process? Your wedding requires a lot of planning, so setting up a station in your home can help you be more organized.

Why Make a Wedding Planning Station?

Making a wedding planning station may sound like overkill for some, but it can definitely take off some stress from the whole process. After all, planning a wedding can place a lot of pressure on you. Your home slowly fills up with clutter as you go through invitations, budgets, catalogs and DIY projects.

Clutter can negatively affect your well-being. One study found that wives who considered their homes cluttered showed heightened levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

A small space in your home dedicated to all wedding planning affairs will help you separate work, wedding planning and life. You don’t have to worry about setting up your invitations in your home office or putting away your seating plan board when you have a home Zoom call.

If you like to DIY, having a designated space can help you keep your work contained and your clutter minimized.

How to Create a Wedding Planning Station at Home

Here are some tips for creating your very own station for wedding planning:

1. Find a Space

The first thing you need to do is to find a suitable space for your planning station. It can be any corner of your home. During lockdowns, people often felt more productive, efficient and happy with their working conditions when they set up a proper workspace at home.

Avoiding distractions and creating a quiet, private space to work is the best way to work at home. You can also apply these principles to your planning station.

However, many people do not have extra space in their homes. For your station, consider setting up or converting other parts of your home, like your attic, garage or basement.

2. Put up a Desk

Whenever you do any kind of planning, a desk is always essential. Once you find your space, set up a desk with everything you need. Make space for a laptop or a tablet. You will need space for budgeting, scheduling and general planning. You’ll need to send a lot of emails, too. You’ll probably sit at your desk for long periods, so choose a comfortable chair to go with it.

If you do a lot of DIY’s, make space on your table for your tools and materials. If you can set up two desks to separate paperwork from DIY projects, you can also do that.

3. Add Some Storage

Part of keeping your space clean is using proper storage solutions. Use different types of storage for your documents, craft supplies, photos and more.

Keep it as organized as you can by adding labels to your boxes. Create an organization method you can follow and understand to work smoothly in your space.

4. Add Lighting

One key factor to making a good working space is adding enough light. Choose an area in your home that gets a lot of natural light, like somewhere near a window. If that’s not possible, add adequate lighting to your space through a good desk lamp.

Good lighting can help you be more productive and focused, which you will need when reviewing your wedding plans.

5. Create a Wedding Board

Creating a visual board where you can see your schedule and to-do lists can help you better plan your big day. You can use any board you like. There are free-standing boards, and there are also ones you can hang up the wall. You can use a chalkboard, whiteboard or corkboard, depending on your preference.

You can place a large calendar or timeline for your plans on your wedding board. You’ll better understand how much time you have left if you see your schedule laid out properly.

You can also write down your wedding checklist. You’ll feel satisfied and motivated whenever you check something off.

6. Recycle and Upcycle

As you add things to your station, remember this is a temporary space. You don’t need to buy new stuff like file organizers or pen holders. You can make use of things that are already in your home. For instance, even recycled jars can serve as pen or art tool holders. You can take used boxes and use them for storage.

If you intend to buy new things for your station, buy stuff you can still use after the wedding.

7. Make it Inspiring

Yes, wedding planning is stressful, but you can do things to make the process more fun and inspiring. Add some personal touches to your wedding planning station. You can start by using colors that match your wedding motif. Doing so can make you look forward to your big day.

You can also decorate with pictures of your wedding inspirations. Create a mood board so you can better visualize how your wedding will look like.

Keep your space neat and clean so you’ll feel motivated to work in it. If it’s too messy, you might feel even more stressed about wedding planning and avoid getting any work done. Make it a sanctuary where you plan the most important day of your life.

Set up Your Wedding Planning Station

With your big day coming up, you should take steps to lessen stress and streamline your planning process. Adding a designated planning station to your home can help you feel more organized and inspired. You can also better concentrate on planning if you’re away from distractions.
