There’s something special about engagement sessions that take place in the heart of a couple’s everyday life—their favorite corners of the city, the warmth of their home and the quiet moments that speak louder than any posed shot ever could. Laura and Aaron’s engagement session with Chantel Miller Storytelling was exactly that: heartfelt, cinematic and unmistakably them!

As Laura put it, “We met the modern way, through a dating app, but our first date felt anything but ordinary.” Dinner quickly turned into something more, with the couples sharing hours of laughter, conversation and wandering the city. “From that night on, it just felt easy and right, like we had known each other forever,” she shares.

Aaron’s proposal was straight out of a cozy holiday movie! Surrounded by wrapping paper and their two dogs, he popped the question on Christmas morning. “Our two Pomeranians, Lisbon and Truffle, were right there in the middle of it all, probably thinking the excitement was all for them,” Laura gushes. Aaron chose the ring himself, and according to Laura, he absolutely nailed it! She explains, "It’s a round-cut diamond—simple, timeless and elegant!"

When it came time to choose a photographer, Laura and Aaron knew exactly who they wanted. “We knew we wanted someone who could capture us naturally and make the photos feel cinematic but still real,” Laura says. Chantel Miller Storytelling's gift for blending atmosphere and emotion shines through in every frame, transforming ordinary moments into visual poetry!

For their session, Laura and Aaron wanted to tell the story of their life together in Chicago. “There are so many beautiful places in the city, but we truly love the ones that feel most like home,” Laura explains. They began with cozy shots at home (capturing moments with Lisbon and Truffle!), before heading out to a few of their favorite neighborhood spots—places where they’ve shared dinners, laughter and late-night movies.

Laura and Aaron’s outfits perfectly complemented the intimate tone of their session. “I wanted looks that felt elevated but still true to us, nothing too staged,” she shares. They chose soft, neutral tones and beautiful textures that photographed effortlessly. Laura explains, "I chose one romantic dress and one casual chic outfit, while Aaron kept things classic with tailored pieces that complemented mine perfectly."

From the beginning, Laura knew what kind of wedding she wanted—something “intimate and personal—an atmosphere that felt like us while still being romantic and city chic.” Planning turned out to be a joyful and creative journey! “Of course, there were a few whirlwind moments, but I genuinely loved bringing our vision to life," she admits. Their planner and vendors helped keep the stress levels low, and the day itself felt "magical—elegant, emotional and full of love,” Laura gushes.
