Elizabeth and Nick met as freshmen in college and soon began their romantic journey. Nick would pop the question years later when Elizabeth came to see him for a visit. She says, “I was visiting him in his hometown. We decided to go grab Portillo's for lunch. I put my sweats on and threw my hair up. He looked at me and said, ‘You’re not going to shower first?’”. Elizabeth didn’t know what was about to happen–for her it was just another casual day. So, the question went right over her head. She continues, “I was obviously clueless and after we ate at Portillo's, he took me to our favorite spot to hike around. The trails were practically flooded but I thought he was just being funny. We got out and were just laughing and joking around when I turned to see him down on one knee. I was completely surprised and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”
After their fun proposal, the couple started planning the big day. Elizabeth says, “We just wanted everyone to have a great time. I wanted it to be relaxed and casual but also the wedding I have been dreaming about forever.” Keeping in mind the goal of having a relaxed, fun wedding — the couple tried to keep the planning as simple as possible too.
Elizabeth already knew what she wanted in her wedding dress. She went looking at almost every bridal shop but just couldn’t find the one. It was when Elizabeth’s sister, whose mother-in-law owns a bridal shop, sent her a photo of a dress that she thought Elizabeth might like when she fell in love. She knew just from the photo that this dress was 'the one.' Elizabeth adds, “My sister, mom, aunt and I headed down there. Although, I tried on a few other dresses — I knew I was going with the Ella Rosa gown by Kenneth Winston.”
Advice from the bride
“Enjoy every second of planning and your special day. If you’re not, take a moment and remember why you’re getting married in the first place. You can’t please everyone so don’t even try to,” says Elizabeth. “Do what you want to do and what your budget can allow! I wanted all these amazing things and quickly realized it wasn’t in my budget. Remember, it’s one day and ask yourself what is truly important to you both.”
