Today's engagement session is a little extra special—not only did this groom surprise his soon-to-be-bride with a proposal, but he also arranged for it to be photographed! What can we say? We love a thoughtful guy! Jacob and Julia had been dating for a while and Jacob knew that he had to make it special! He says, "I knew this moment was important for both of us. I wanted to make sure we had some amazing pictures to look back on and remember how special the moment was."
Jacob began planning the surprise proposal by finding the photographer. He was lucky enough to get Lora Sapio Photography. He adds, "I originally reached out to a few photographers in the area, but Lori was an amazing communicator and had great work. Customer service goes a long way with my Midwest mentality, and she did an amazing job."
There was a little work before Jacob popped the big question. Julia actually got to pick out her own ring (not knowing that the proposal was coming soon!). "We both went ring shopping together prior to our engagement," says Jacob. "She kept smiling and her eyes lit up while trying on the ring. I knew then that I would propose with that one." Julia was shocked to see that Jacob had gotten the exact ring that she loved so much. It was a thoughtful detail to the proposal.
The proposal took place at the Chicago Riverwalk. Jacob says, "Lori did most of the planning. She knows the area and people so well. We are new to Chicago and haven’t been downtown a lot, so I trusted Lori’s judgment. She sent me her location while Julia and I were on the train. When we got off she was ready near the Riverwalk. Julia was unaware that the photographer was hired when I asked her to take our picture. While Lori was shooting I proposed, and the photo shoot began shortly after." It was the best surprise Julia could have! Despite the cold weather—Jacob and Julia still had one of the most beautiful proposals of all time. Jacob says, "We were cold! It was pretty chilly out, but it didn’t seem to matter to us once the diamonds came out and she said 'yes!'"
