When Kayla Powell of Prohibition and Pearls Photography decided that she wanted to create a shoot completely revolved around VW buses, she knew that she wanted to curate something that was beyond anything she has seen before. Kayla says, “This all started when Patrick with Matilda70 reached out to me via Instagram to introduce himself and let me know that he’d be open to collaborations. When you think of the VW bus, you think of a very free lifestyle. I’ve always loved the bohemian style and that’s very “in” right now, so I definitely wanted to do something boho-inspired for this shoot.”

The team wanted to use the buses as the centerfold of the shoot, so their color palette was built around the buses. Kayla adds, “Patrick has two buses, but I fell in love with the blue bus, so I created a color palette completely around that featuring the powder blue, creams, browns, and beige.”

All the details of the shoot were pulled in by pro vendors across the country. Kayla presented each vendor with the theme and color palette and they delivered unbelievable results. Kalya remarks, “They created perfect pieces that went along with the shoot. Bethany made the dress by hand and Katie with Eudora Rose bags used a piece of vintage fabric to create the clutch. These pieces were perfectly created and curated for this shoot from as far away as Texas!”

When it came to choosing a venue for the shoot, the team knew they wanted something that would offer outdoor spaces along with rustic appeal. “I just loved everything I saw about Westbrook,” says Kayla. “I was especially anxious to shoot in their restored farmhouse mansion. I felt it added beautifully to our color scheme and the overall vision of our shoot.”

Since the dress for the shoot was handmade, it was truly one-of-a-kind. Kayla says, “I cannot stop raving about Bethany at Bespoke Boutique GR. I showed Bethany some boho bride inspiration photos and our color palette. It far and away exceeded every single expectation I had and I am so happy to have had the privilege of working with her.”

Kayla says, "I think the bohemian trend is very hot right now! I wanted to create something that included elements of this trend, but that wouldn’t also be obsolete when the trend has run its course. That’s why we went with a boho-inspired theme. Everything was inspired by the bohemian trends and lifestyle, but also included elements that are timeless as well."
