This Grand Rapids Celebration Perfectly Blends Disco and Boho: The Real Wedding of Olivia and Tyler Schwerin

While Tyler was attending school at the University of Michigan, he met Olivia, who was living in Ann Arbor at the time. The two started dating and the rest is history! Since Olivia and Tyler shared their first home in Muskegon, Michigan before moving to Grand Rapids, Tyler chose to propose in Muskegon at the top of an overlook that faced Lake Michigan.

When it came to dress shopping, Olivia wasn't quite sure what she wanted, so she used another bridal shop to try on different styles and learn what she wanted to wear on her big day. "I tried on like seven or eight dresses, and it was the very last one I tried on," Olivia says about finding her gown. We love the look she decided on! The gown she picked has an stunning plunge neckline, plenty of lace detailing and a chic figure, all of which are perfect for this disco boho wedding.

Even though it seemed like Olivia had too many ideas she was trying to meld together, Olivia knew exactly where she was headed with it. Olivia explains, "I kind of had ideas in my head. I loved the bohemian aesthetic but I also loved the modern vibe as well. Plus, I also loved the disco theme on top of that (BIG Mamma Mia fan). My mom was unsure about all of those together, but I kept telling her that it’ll come together, I promise!" Olivia also wanted to bring some light neutral colors into her darker venue. Tyler was nothing but supportive while Olivia started to put together the ideas she had taken from Instagram and Pinterest!

Of course, this dream wedding wouldn't have been nearly as successful without the help of talented vendors. "A BIG shout out to all of our vendors. Everything came out perfect, so thank you!" Olivia raves. The venue they chose came with a preferred catering company, which made Olivia and Tyler's job easier. Since Olivia and Tyler love supporting small businesses in the Grand Rapids area, they made sure to incorporate them in their big day as well.

What We Love

The disco theme perfectly reflected Olivia and Tyler's love of music. To show off their personal style within the disco theme, Olivia and Tyler included vinyls to sign instead of a traditional guestbook and plenty of disco balls around the space. Unfortunately, the happy couple lost a dear friend who was like a second mother to Olivia before they got married. "Her tradition was to say three happy things that happened to you that day, and we wanted to carry on her tradition with our family as well," Olivia shares. "So, we made a thank you speech to all of our guests and included those three happy things in that speech and carry on her legacy."

Advice from the Couple

Olivia and Tyler advise, "Get the biggest things out of the way first, like your venue, photographer, guest list, etc. It will relieve so much of your stress early on. It is important to stay calm even if something goes wrong. It’s okay if it’s not perfect because no one will even notice (besides you). But, this is the time when you two can be your most genuine and authentic selves for everyone to see and feel your love for one another."
