Your wedding day is one of the most heavily photographed days of your life. You and your families will cherish those photos of you and your betrothed for years to come, displaying them on walls and coffee tables for generations. Have I spiked your anxiety yet? Similar to searching for your dress, most brides are perusing bridal magazines and sites looking for “the look." But unlike when you find the dream dress in a magazine, you can’t tear a page out and special order it for your face. Why? Because you are you (yay you!), and a model in a magazine is a model, most often heavily photo-shopped and filtered beyond recognition to their everyday self. So when we say inspiration, we mean just that. There are three things you need to remember when choosing the look you’re going to be looking at for decades to come. Walk with me...

Figure Out What You Are Gravitating Towards

Bring a minimum of three (but no more then five) photos of makeup looks that you are gravitating towards. Too few won’t give your artist enough information, and too many can just be overwhelming. Any experienced wedding makeup artist should be able to help you narrow down on what it is about each look that you love the most. There will always be an underlying theme tying your photos together, and that is what your artist can help customize for your face.

Consider Your Own Features & Personal Style

Consider which features on your face you are wanting to highlight, as well as your own personal style. Are bold lips your signature look? Do people constantly compliment your eye color? Do you have impeccably shaped brows? These are all things to think about, because regardless of what you are wanting for your makeup look, you still want to feel like “you." Figure out what your personal style is, and build your look from there. Are you normally fresh faced? Is tinted lip balm the only thing in your beauty arsenal? That’s ok, too! You just want to make sure that you look like the best version of you! Still not sure? Your makeup artist can take an objective look at your face, and help accentuate your best features that you may not have even realized were there!

Avoid Trends

Heavily applied contours and eye blinding highlights covered with blurring filters is a trend that has been running rampant on many social media sites, with chants of “SLAY!” and “YAS!” loud enough to make your ears bleed. Just like the “Mall Bangs” of the 90s and the over-plucked eyebrows of Y2K, this generation is going to be cringing at their “On This Day” pop-up for years to come. Trends can wax and wane with the moon and are not in any way timeless. Unfortunately, some take longer to die off than others, but let me assure you that timeless makeup consists of staying true to your own personal beauty, and not Neapolitan looking cheeks covered up with unrealistic filters.

Embracing your own beauty means that you’ll be the picture of perfection for generations to come!
