Planning ahead for wedding day disasters has given birth to a such a novel idea...The Wedding Day Emergency Kit. Usually gifted to the bride from her maid of honor, this kit contains all of things that can help save the day in case of an unforeseen ‘emergency.’
Having done weddings for over 13 years, I feel confident in saying that I’ve pretty much seen it all. So, I take that knowledge and put it to good use. There are a few items that I have learned to carry with me over the years, because, even with these amazing kits, there are just a few obscure essentials that no one ever thinks of that can quickly solve the most common wedding day hiccups. And I’ll be honest, one of my favorite parts of a wedding day is the moment when I save the day by having just the item my bride needs. Want to know the most non-obvious things you may need on your wedding day?
1. Chalk
Yes. Plain old white chalk. Chalk will help hide water stains on dresses and when you brush it away, the stain will be unnoticeable. This is perfect for wedding dresses and light colored bridesmaids dresses.
2. Extra Earring Backs
I can’t tell you how many weddings I go to when somehow, someway, an earring back goes missing. It’s crazy! So, I picked up a 100 pack at Michaels, and disaster is quickly avoided.
3. Mole Skin
Sorry ladies, band-aids are for amateurs. If you really want to protect your feet from blisters, Mole Skin is the way to go! Find this in the bandage aisle at any drug store.
4. Deodorant
Besides for the obvious reason, using deodorant on the backs of your heels will protect them from rubbing and possible blisters throughout the day.
5. USB Fan
For those that plan on keeping their phones close, a fan that plugs into your charger can bring a welcome breeze during those hot summer months. They are also perfect for battling hot flashes. These are less than $5 each on Amazon.
6. Straws
YES! You and your ladies will have perfectly applied lips and will want to use straws when possible. Grab a pack of cute patterned paper straws at your nearest party store.
7. Scissors
Again, so simple, but so often overlooked. Bring a full size pair for getting ready and a travel size to put in your clutch.
8. A crochet hook
Because who doesn’t like to crochet on their wedding day? Kidding. If you’ve got buttons, listen up. Your bridal party will likely have perfectly manicured nails that may not be the best to help you button up the back of your dress. A crochet hook makes quick and easy work of an otherwise daunting task.
Fortune favors the prepared, and adding these off the wall items to your wedding day emergency kit will be sure to save the day!
