how they met
Jenny Hull and Matt Haas met through friends at a fraternity party while both were sophomores at Purdue University.
The proposal
Matt told Jenny he had a gift card to St. Elmo’s in downtown Indianapolis and they enjoyed a romantic, delicious dinner. When the bill came, she realized that there was no gift card. “Matt had been busy with work recently so I assumed he was just trying to do something nice and definitely didn’t think he was proposing!” says Jenny. After dinner, Matt suggested a carriage ride around the downtown as Jenny has always wanted to do that. On their way back to the car, they passed a fountain and Jenny stopped mid-sentence when Matt dropped down on one knee.
The venue
The Indianapolis Public Library fulfilled this bride’s dream of a romantic wedding, with the ceremony and cocktail hour in the East Garden, and the reception in the main atrium. The library “welcome desk” was transformed into a bar and the nearby bookshelves became a natural part of the décor.
The ceremony
The outdoor ceremony of 180 people “had a great metropolitan feel since you could see the tall buildings and the Capitol in the distance,” Jenny adds.
special moments
Jenny was touched by the speeches delivered by her father, sisters and Matt’s brother. She also loved the carriage ride from the wedding to the hotel as it was similar to the one they took the night of the engagement. “Matt and I were able to be alone for the first time that day. We were both so overwhelmed with love not only for each other but for our family and friends who came to celebrate with us.”
The wedding theme
Jenny had always pictured a romantic wedding with lots of candles and beautiful flowers. The bridesmaids wore soft pink floor-length dresses and the groomsmen sported charcoal grey suits.
The floral
Cream Anna roses filled out Jenny’s bouquet while the bridesmaids carried pink Anna roses, pink larkspur, pink wax flower, pink hypericum berries, pink stock and pink spray roses. Pink prevailed!
The dress
Jenny chose a mermaid-style dress with lace appliqué and a sweetheart neckline. She wore her mom’s cathedral veil with lace appliqué that matched her dress perfectly.
The cake
Guests were treated to a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and almond buttercream icing. Pink Anna roses – of course – were placed on the cake.
The Décor
Soft gray table linens and soft gray chair sashes were tied on white chairs. The tables were laden with silver/gray chargers, silver napkins, candles and a variety of short and tall centerpieces. Light pink hydrangeas, tall white sticks, pink Anna roses and hypericum berries added romance and softness to the table setting.
What we love
The soft, romantic centerpieces complemented the grand reception space perfectly, creating an elegant, dream-like atmosphere.
Advice from the bride
“Don’t sweat the small things. It will be a stressful day, but it really shouldn’t be. Truly enjoy this time with your new husband, family and friends because it goes by so quickly.”
