Sarah and Kevin met after Kevin ended up renting the same house Sarah had rented a year before. Sarah and her roommates went back to the house to see how it had changed. Sarah says, “We knocked on the door, hoping to see our old bedrooms and see how the new owners re-did the place. Kevin, my now husband, answered the door. He was renting out the house with several of his friends while they were doing clinical rotations for his medical school program. He showed up around the house, and invited us all back for a get together that evening. We started studying together and hanging out, eventually a great relationship developed.”
After awhile it became clear to Kevin that he couldn’t let Sarah go—so he decided to pop the big question. During a trip to Florida, Kevin brought a drone to the beach to capture footage. He asked a friend to take over the drone and started walking down the beach with Sarah. She adds, “While walking on the beach, he got down on one knee and proposed. We got the whole thing on video.”
To start planning the wedding, Sarah solicited the help of Alyse Erickson of ELD Event Design. She told her what she wanted her wedding to look like, sharing Pinterest boards and other inspiration sources. Knowing that they want a venue where they could kick back and dance the night away, the couple chose Felt Mansion in Holland, Michigan.
After choosing the perfect venue, Sarah got down to the details and landed on a classical theme. She says, “We chose blush, white and gold. We wanted to keep it simple and classic.” To go with this theme, she used items from The Rental Company to bring together the atmosphere at the reception.
Sarah went to B Ella to find her dream dress. After trying on over 20 dresses—she finally found the one. She says, “The dress I bought was the very last one in my pile. As soon as I saw it in the mirror, I had the feeling and knew I found the one.”
What we love
Kevin and Sarah thought ahead and decided to so something extra special for their wedding day. “We wrote letters to each other and also had our parents write letters to us,” says Sarah. “Our parents put their letters in a sealed box during the ceremony—we will open it on our one year anniversary.”
Advice from the bride
Sarah says, “Stick to your vision. It is your day—you should be able to create the most wonderful day, true to yourselves, that you will want to relive over and over.”
