The Wedding Story of Stefan and Kassie Wolowec

Over the years, we have heard numerous stories about the serendipitous ways that couples have met; but the story of Stefan and Kassie have to be one of our absolute favorites. Kassie says that her and Stefan met in junior high. "I met Stefan in junior high when my younger brother, Kyle started playing on the same basketball team," Kassie explains. "We did not actually start talking until Stefan quit the team during his senior year of high school and as a joke, my brother told Stefan that if he came back to the team, he would allow him to date any one of his sisters that he wanted to—I have seven sisters! Stefan returned to the team and a few months later, we started talking over Twitter."

The two became engaged after Stefan planned a scavenger hunt for Kassie at the Indianapolis Museum of Art; he even coordinated the whole thing with the staff! Kassie started on the planning right away using her sisters as advisors, planners and advocates along the way.

Kassie knew she wanted a garden wedding, but struggled to find a venue that was available. When her co-worker suggested Community Life Center in Indianapolis, Kassie fell in love with the outdoor courtyard and glass window walkway surrounding it. It was also an ideal setting since she wanted to have an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. Community Life Center features a crystal tower, courtyard, rotunda and a ballroom—making it the complete package for Stefan and Kassie's wedding.

Kassie wore a sleeveless, illusion neck gown from David's Bridal. The gown featured a sweetheart bodice with a flowing tulle skirt. "I tried on several different styles, but ended up choosing this specific dress because I liked the way it curved and fit my body," says Kassie. 

The flower arrangements included a lovely mix of Dusty Miller, blush pink Faith Roses, white peonies, blush spray roses, beaded eucalyptus and wax flower. Kassie chose a soft blush for the main color theme as she wanted soft bridesmaid dresses that reflected the springtime season. An accent of navy was thrown in to anchor the light blush.

Stefan and Kassie have Kassie's brother Kyle to thank for their introduction (and Kyle's permission to date one of his sisters!) A week before their wedding, Kyle unexpectedly passed away in a motorcycle accident. Because Kyle was a brother and a best friend to both of them, Stefan and Kassie couldn't imagine their day without him at their side. Together with their families, they found a number of ways to honor his presence on the wedding day. Their florist created a boutonniere that they placed on a pillar to mark the spot where Kyle would have stood in the ceremony. One of Kassie's family members made bracelets with Kyle's name on them and her cousin created wooden pieces that were tied on to all of the bouquets. "These were the most special to me as even though my brother could not be there, he was still a part of the wedding," says Kassie. 

Kassie's only wedding regret? She didn't get to try her wedding cake! "I hear it was amazing though!" she says.

Stefan and Kassie had what some would consider a "disastrous moment" during their wedding. When the couple started their vows, it started pouring down rain and hailing. "We had a few crazy moments where people were running for cover and our wedding party and DJ were trying to save our sand ceremony table and our music set up," says Kassie. "We finished our ceremony all huddled in a circle underneath shelter, laughing and soaking wet." According to Kassie, it was "absolutely perfect" and a lighthearted moment for them after losing Kyle the week before. Some may look at rain on the wedding as horrible weather, but for the couple, they were simply tears from heaven.
