Bridal portrait sessions can be one of the most overlooked photo categories by brides, but these sessions allow you to capture images that you cannot achieve in other sessions. Rich Aguilar of Aguilar Photography used an abandoned church as the backdrop for this bridal portrait session and it shows off just why these sessions should be considered by every bride!
Rich went for a more daring, bold look in this shoot. One that would demonstrate the power and elegance of a bride at the same time. Rich says, “I wanted something that was epic. Often times in these abandoned buildings you really don’t know what you’re going to get unless you’ve been there a few times. It’s exciting to explore and just make it happen. I was simply picturing this beautiful bride shining in the darkness.”
With a beautiful gown from Callas Prom & Bridal, the bride was given a soft, enchanting look that contrasted against the backdrop of the abandoned church. Rich says, “It was simple and laced. It fit perfectly for the styled shoot we were shooting for.” Rich also wanted to focus in on the lighting. He remarks, “I wanted to show a bride that a good photographer can make any situation work. It had to take it too, that gave me a chance to use lighting in a different way than what a traditional bride might expect. For example, using lighting to light behind my bride to separate her from the background. Many, if not most wedding photographers, only focus on the bride/couple, which is good, but there’s more to explore.”
