Mikayla and Davis met at the same boarding school and started dating a few years later when they worked together at the same summer camp. Despite Mikayla’s fear of heights, Davis proposed on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building in downtown Chicago.

Mikayla’s search for her dress began the day after she got engaged and didn’t end for an entire month! She says, “I went to school for fashion design and knew that I was going to have a really hard time finding ‘the one’ because I am so picky, but knew I wanted way too much detail in my dress to be able to create it myself. I actually found my dress (after looking for weeks on end, at hundreds of different styles) about a month after I got engaged-- online, that is.” We’re so happy with the style that she chose!

As soon as they started planning, Mikayla turned to Pinterest and Instagram. She decided to immediately begin looking for a perfect color palette and a dress the very next day! The first thing the couple knew for sure was that they wanted to get married at the school where they first met. “Culver Academies is such an important place to us and played such a big role in the way we met and started dating,” Mikayla says. We love the flawless fairytale colors of the linens thanks to AAYS Event Rentals!

What we love

This couple added a playful touch to their table numbers. They included childhood photos of the couple that lined up with the table numbers. Mikayla flexed her design skills and created the couple’s save-the-dates, invitations, table numbers, guest book and bar menu signs from scratch to save a few dollars!

Advice from the couple

Mikayla advises brides to cherish the moments of their wedding because they go by so fast! She adds, “My best advice would be to make a weekend out of the event if you can (a fun night out before the wedding, a brunch the morning after, etc.)! So many memories are made that day, but it can be easy to get caught up in the minor behind-the-scenes happenings. Something will always go wrong, whether it’s major or minor (luckily any of our diversions were minor), just forget about it and focus on the fact that you have a room full of all of your favorite people, and that only comes once in a lifetime.”
