Have you ever wanted to say “I do” with some dragons? Now you can with this imaginative fantasy shoot! The idea was born when Meg McCormick of Managed by Meg and Megan Ritz from Classic Cakes bonded over their mutual love of all things nerdy. “Megan really wanted to do a dramatic dragon cake, so the theme sort of revolved around that,” Meg notes. “I want more couples to have fun with their wedding planning. Don’t just do the same old, same old. Find a way to really put who you are into it!”
This European-styled invitation, provided by Wedding Stationery by PSR Designs, went outside of the box in creating a stationery set that is full of personality and elegance. The stylish invitation suite even has jewels and it shuts using velcro! Talk about going the extra mile for style!
We love the choice of a dramatic black overlaying a softer, cream color for the gown. Meg admits she got lucky finding the perfect dress to capture the shoot’s exact style. She notes, “The long skirt was dramatic without being overly so, and the back showed off Kelsey’s tattoos which I loved because tattoos are beautiful too. More women shouldn’t be afraid to show them off on their wedding day.” Meg wanted to draw on a dark, Celtic look for the model’s hair and makeup. The dark tones of the model’s palette ties the color schemes of the whole shoot together!
Meg of Managed by Meg tried to include a lot of alternative and nerdy details into this shoot. Three trendy aspects she drew on the most were the alternative colored dress, the brooch bouquet and the wedding cake!
The venue was chosen because the team loved the mission they stood for--assisting women in abusive situations. “I didn’t choose it for style as much as I just really wanted to highlight it as an option for anyone not just the ‘barn bride’ so to speak,” Meg adds. “They do lovely rustic weddings in their barn, but they can do so much more and I wanted to prove that with my style shoot.”
This towering cake incorporated the sleek style of a geode design while including some extra nerdy details. Meg jokes, “I felt like the bottom dragon was proposing to the top dragon with the little D20. This is a nerdy couple’s dream cake!”
