Break out your maps and get ready for your next road trip! You'll definitely want to check out this local Midwest city that was entered into our Best Midwest Wedding City 2020 Contest. Every delightful destination that was nominated brings its own down-home charm that you won't find anywhere else. And don't just take it from us! Read on to see why Sharon and Kevin picked West Lafayette, Indiana to tie the knot.
How did you know West Lafayette was where you and Kevin wanted to tie the knot?
"Kevin moved to West Lafayette for high school. We met in grad school at Purdue. We considered many different cities and even states, but in the end doing the wedding where we met seemed great (and practical!—this way most of Kevin's family could attend)."
Did you use any local features in your wedding?
"Our favors were honey jars from Wildcat Creek Apiary in Lafayette, Indiana. Our beer was from Burn 'Em Brewing in Michigan City, Indiana—not local to Lafayette, but our favorite beer, and most popular among our friends. Aside from tapping some of their more popular beers, we also brewed our own wedding beer (called "Nice Day for a Mint Red Thing", because our beer was minty and brewed with hibiscus which gave a red hue). Finally, the beautiful Indiana landscape, and the stormy weather it can experience in the summer, were prominent features of our outdoor wedding."
What would you tell couples who are looking to get married in West Lafayette?
"Our vendors were the greatest, hire all of them! What we can say for sure: our photographer Jasmine Norris Photography and her husband/partner-in-crime Devin, and Audra, accompanied by her own husband/partner-in-crime Zach, from Heart's Arrow Events were essential. Honestly the two duos were instrumental on making our wedding day go so smoothly."
