Break out your maps and get ready for your next road trip! You'll definitely want to check out this local Midwest city that was entered into our Best Midwest Wedding City 2020 Contest. Every delightful destination that was nominated brings its own down-home charm that you won't find anywhere else. And don't just take it from us! Read on to see why Amy and Meagan picked Columbus, Ohio to tie the knot.

How did you know Columbus was where you two wanted to tie the knot?

"Before deciding on Columbus we discussed a range of options like eloping to the Amalfi Coast in Italy to renting beach houses in South Carolina. Eventually we settled on Columbus because it's been our home together for nine years. It's where most of our closest friends live, and with it being centrally located, the remaining of our friends and family could easily travel in. The other major reason we chose Columbus is because of its diverse LGBTQ community; comprised of many gay-friendly areas, gay-owned or gay-friendly businesses and prides itself on a feeling of inclusiveness all over the city. This was an important element for us being an openly gay couple. Knowing this helped to ensure we had a positive planning experience, would feel supported and would not have to worry about any uncomfortable homophobic conversations that could dampen our exciting time. We were repeatedly impressed and had many wonderful experiences."

Did you use any local features in your wedding?

"Our wedding cake was made by Short North Piece of Cake. This is a local business, part of the Short North Arts District (where we live), and has been in the wedding cake and pastry business for 20 years. Fantastic reputation and absolutely delicious cakes."

What would you tell couples who are looking to get married in Columbus?

"Columbus is a fantastic city for a wedding with everything you could want to make your day perfect. Venues range from city-view rooftops, intimate wine cellars, art museums, a converted bank, rustic farmhouses and many industrial spaces with features like metalwork, murals and original tin ceilings. Not to mention that many of these are gay-friendly spaces and vendors. There are also lots of well-known restaurants with lots of variety which makes catering and an outside-the-box menu easy. There are affordable accommodations (Airbnbs, hotels, bed and breakfasts, etc.). The public transportation in the city is decent for downtown and a Lyft, Uber, scooter or shared ride is just a minute away. There's also a great night scene, countless sporting events, art shows, concerts and festivals throughout the year to complement any wedding. Overall, Columbus just has an electric vibe that's fun, thriving and has an affordable option for any taste and lifestyle."
