2020 Style Shoot Design Contest Submission: Color Outside the Lines

Let the bold colors in this submission to our 2020 Style Shoot Design Contest warm you up! Chrissy Hudacin, owner of Special Occasions Designs, wanted to utilize bright colors to contrast the gloominess in the world thanks to COVID-19 and to flex her ability to design shoots. She teamed up with Amanda Allaby at Magical Moments Event Planning to help her vision come to life. “So many times, we see the same color palette over and over and although they are pretty, they don’t always stand out or pop in the pictures,” Chrissy says. This shoot's unique take on modern bold styles will leave you wanting more!

With bold colors being the name of the game, Classic Blue, the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, pops in this shoot’s linens and florals. Chrissy notes, “We wanted to use the color in subtle ways to help make all the elements and colors pop.”
 

The team wanted to find a neutral setting to host their bold shoot. This barn venue gave the team all the space they needed and included unique elements to design on to. “It was unique, all while keeping the setting very natural to fit the modern, classic boho vibe we were wanting,” Chrissy says.

We love the addition of white door panes for an Instagram-worthy ceremony backdrop! 

 

These florals are diverse not only in color but in texture as well. Chrissy admits that the team wanted to find blooms that would create an eye-catching contrast in color and dimension. Touches of greenery were added into the design as well to bring in a variety of cool, green tones. “A special touch of art was added to some of the greenery by spraying it with fun colors to add a different dynamic and unity to our designs,” she adds.
 

Both models in this shoot showcase two different looks. The white gown is traditionally elegant, while the champagne gown has flowing lace, encompassing some boho vibes. Additionally, there was a boho twist added to each models’ traditional look. This balance, Chrissy says, kept the look as timeless as possible. 

This orange buttercream cake packs a punch of bold color! Flowing bright florals complete this three-tiered confection’s striking image. Raspberry and vanilla macarons adorn each table setting in the place of a guest favor, perfect for curbing any sweet tooth during cocktail hour!
