You’ll be transported to another planet in this starry submission to our 2020 Style Shoot Design Contest! Wesley Moguel, owner of Moguel Photography, and Mandy Krause, owner of Love and Macarons, had a vision in their heads of extraterrestrial glam. “Rather than choose obvious five-pointed stars, moons, suns, etc., we opted for a style that gave an alien, otherworldly feel but combined with utilitarian, almost industrial details that were decidedly human,” Wesley explains. “We hoped that this juxtaposition would offer an ‘out of this world’ feel without forcing the viewer to see it.”

Wesley and the team wanted to touch on the trend of minimal details. “Pushes towards minimalism have been present in individual aspects of weddings for years, but we expect to see more intentional minimalism as a general wedding theme,” he notes. From the colorful crafted cocktails to the gorgeously speckled macarons, small details can make a big thematic impression!

This venue’s collection of tropical plants and natural lighting gave the team the perfect extraterrestrial atmosphere for this shoot. The dripping backdrop of greenery gives us all the moody flair we could ever need.

Working with vintage sci-fi as inspiration, Wesley wanted to find a retro gown that had an air of elegance. These off-the-shoulder straps add a touch of sultry spice to this model’s classic look. She not only did her own makeup but gave the groom a look of his own. Wesley says, “She did our groom's eyes in softer grays, blacks and blues to contrast her own brightness and, again, offer the viewer an opportunity to feel a little surprised and out of this world.”

This dessert table leaves this atmosphere with a bang! The small tower of macarons and chocolates are perfect small bites of sweetness, while this 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, Classic Blue, cake is larger than life. “It is nearly impossible to look at that cake without being reminded of the deep space telescope images of supernovae and other celestial objects that push the limits of human imagination,” Wesley says.

White anemones, bonsai eucalyptus, thistles and other blooms are surrounded by giant Monstera leaves to create a truly unique bouquet. The touches of Classic Blue help this shoot’s floral arrangements pop!
