This submission to our 2021 Style Shoot Design Contest gave the theme 'Avant Garde' a vintage rock twist! The vision for this shoot came from the traditional use of the venue. Kay from Kay Warner Photography explains, “Avenue 912 is a rock concert venue and I had the idea to create a wedding here that would attract the ‘different’ and ‘off the beaten path’ type of client that frequents this venue. I chose to stay away from anything that was ‘mainstream’ and went beyond any limits of what a traditional wedding looks like.”
Every detail of this shoot was carefully chosen, and Kay made sure she got exactly what she wanted no matter how difficult it was to find them. The mirrored aisle, alternative lighting, smoke elements, drapery and unique glassware all bring this theme together.
Providing the right amount of contrast, the white invitation suite designed by Your Little Details perfectly matches the theme. We love the extra flair the metallic edging adds to the suite!
The dark cake is so elegant! Kay says, “The cake direction was to mirror the dark makeup of the bride.” We are obsessed with the way the square bottom tier contrasts with the classic round top tiers!
“Finding a dress boutique with non-traditional attire was more difficult,” Kay shares. Both of the dresses the team ended up choosing were perfect for the mood they were trying to set. The black dress brings glamour and pushes the limits to what a wedding dress can be while the gray one brings one of the Pantone Colors of the Year into the shoot in a unique way. The faux hawk on the bride and her dark makeup amp up the moodiness!
