The Vision

The Loft on Isanogel, one of the oldest barns in east central Indiana, is known for its rustic appeal, but the surrounding grounds offered the inspiration for this colorful cover shoot. Event Designer Danielle Lea of Events by D. Nicole knew she wanted to create a bright and bold style using Living Coral, the Pantone Color of the Year, and the bold hues and textures of citrus fruits. “We wanted to incorporate lots of lively color, especially Living Coral. Pulling in real fruit helped us capture the exact look we were going for.” Lea and her team mixed fruits and florals with touches of copper and cacti to create this unforgettable shoot captured by Alison Mae Photography and Emelie Russell Wedding Films.

The Venue

Sixteen acres of lawns, woods and a running creek lend The Loft on Isanogel plenty of outdoor photo ops. Lea said, “The venue was perfect. There was so much open space and gorgeous tree clusters. The arbor was perfect for the ceremony space, we found a big tree that was just the backdrop we needed for our table and the newly created fountain space was great for cocktail hour.”

The Florals

Special Occasion Designs by Chrissy brought in bright blooms to accompany the mixed texture of fruits. The florals incorporated two colors of peonies, one the coral charm; a trio of roses in free spirit, Amsterdam coral and soft yellow; four colors of carnations, including the two-tone sherbet-colored bloom; coral ranunculus; yellow alstroemeria; yellow freesia; peach hypericum berry; and green buttons. “These flowers were selected based on the seasonal availability, their longevity to hold up in the weather on a very warm day, the textures that each one provides and of course for their amazing color.” The team incorporated punchy pops of color through fun surprises like the floral hoop behind the cake table, the wall installation for a great photo backdrop and touches of cacti to bring another style to the mix.

The Look

To let the real fruit and bright designs shine, the team opted for an elegant gown. “The intricacies and the detailing were exactly what I was looking for,” said Lea of the dress from Beloved Brides. “The circle design on the dress was also pulled in throughout the shoot, in places like the circular fruit and the design of the cake.” The bouquet and its colorful ribbons truly pop against the simple silhouette, but the gown is far from boring. “The back of the dress was the wow-factor.” Hair and makeup by Something Blue Stylists perfectly matched the romantic style of the dress. Soft browns and a subtle berry lip let the bride’s natural beauty shine. The loose waves and chignon continued the romantic subtlety of the look.

The DÉcor

Grapefruit, oranges, lemons and limes brought a spirited and lively touch to the tablescape. The linens were also key. “We knew the linen selection was paramount,” Lea said. “We chose Tangerine Pinwheel for its color and pattern. The design reminded me of the inside of a tangerine when it’s sliced.” The team also used vineyard crossback chairs from A Classic Party Rental to give an elegant, rustic feel. Touches of copper through the Moscow mule mugs brought another unexpected punch of color. “Typically people go with gold or silver, but we wanted to incorporate copper through our cocktail table decor. I always like to tell couples you can use anything to enhance your décor.” The striking color palette continued with the stationery. Eileen of Noteworthy Expressions delivered the stunning suite of invitations and menu cards, with calligraphy by Laura Reilly Calligraphy. “Clear acrylic is trending right now, but we wanted to incorporate color where we could. The colored flowers printed on the acrylic menus were a must.” Copper foil print and the patterned envelope lining rounded out the bold design.

The Cake & Desserts

The painted effect on the cake ties in perfectly with the fruits and florals used throughout the shoot. “We wanted the cake to have a bold, colorful pattern and added some handcrafted treats to go along with it.” Sea Salt and Cinnamon delivered just the pops of color needed with the artistic cake and hand-painted macarons and cookies.
