Sara and Randy met through social media. Randy saw her and knew that he had to reach out to this woman. The couple started messaging back and forth. Soon enough, Randy came to meet Sara in person and they knew they were meant to be. Randy soon wanted to pop the big question. Sara says, “It was July 3rd, and we had gone to watch the fireworks in downtown Newburgh by the river. When the fireworks were over, we decided to go on a walk alongside the river, and sat down at a bench along the way.” Sara didn’t even notice one of their friends following them with a camera — what was to come next was a total surprise. Sara adds, “When we went to get up from the bench, he got down on one knee and proposed!”

The planning soon started. “We knew from the beginning that we wanted our wedding to be simple and a little less traditional,” says Sara. “A few specifics we knew we wanted were to write our own vows, include worship and an altar call, and incorporate a feet-washing ceremony into our wedding.” Sara and Randy first picked out their venue. The couple wanted a venue that would have gorgeous outdoor spaces for photos. Sara says, “It also made for an easy decision being able to have the wedding and reception in the same place, along with onsite catering for less stress.”

Sara got her dress at House of White. She knew she wanted a mermaid fit dress that would be elegant and stylish at the same time. She adds, “I tried it on and knew it was ‘the one’. It was literally the third dress I tried on, and I knew immediately after putting it on that I couldn’t leave without it.”

What we love

We love that Sara designed many of her florals herself! “I actually designed my bouquets, boutonnieres and table centerpieces myself,” says Sara. “I used eucalyptus and white Sophia roses for my bouquets, olive branches for the boutonnieres and eucalyptus garland for the table centerpieces.”

Advice from the bride

Sara says, “Start planning ahead of time! No matter how much time you think you have, it goes by fast, so the sooner you start planning the better. Also, if something doesn’t go as planned, don’t sweat it!”
