Ilse and Daniel’s love story began in 2023 on Hinge. While Daniel had already been on a few dates through the app, Ilse was a first-timer. After messaging back and forth for a couple of weeks and working around their already-planned travels, they finally found an evening that worked for a casual first date over drinks and appetizers. The following weekend, they met up for dinner, and things quickly fell into place. Before long, their weekend dates became almost-daily visits, and a little over six months into their relationship, they moved in together!

Daniel’s proposal was just as special. He popped the question at Pandan, the rooftop restaurant at the Viceroy Chicago, then surprised Ilse with a celebration waiting for them at home, where their family and friends had gathered to share in the excitement.

When it came to wedding planning, Ilse admits she wasn't initially sold on having a wedding at all. She was perfectly happy with the idea of going to the courthouse, but Daniel wanted to celebrate their marriage with a wedding, so the couple decided to make it happen! At first, they had no clear vision for the day. That changed when Ilse came across a TikTok video of The Brix on the Fox. She showed it to Daniel, whose enthusiastic response led them straight to the venue’s website to book a tour. From there, their planning process took shape with help from social media and wedding planning websites, which provided inspiration for everything from the overall aesthetic to the smallest details.

For her dress, Ilse wanted something clean and understated, with just enough detail to make it feel special. The winner was a minimalist yet romantic sheath gown features sleek stretch satin, a strapless scoop cat-eye neckline and asymmetrical pleating throughout the bodice and skirt. Its clean silhouette offered the understated look Ilse wanted, while the thoughtful details kept it from feeling too simple. “I loved how it looked on me, but even better, I loved how comfortable it felt,” Ilse shares. “It was sleek, simple and romantic, with just enough detail to make it feel special.”

A beautiful wedding deserves photographs that allow the couple to relive it for years to come, and Ilse and Daniel found just the right fit in Danielle Schury Photography! Ilse discovered Danielle through Instagram and immediately fell in love with her photography style. Once she learned Danielle was available on their wedding date, the couple booked her as soon as possible.

The venue stood out for its industrial aesthetic, spacious layout and welcoming atmosphere. With large families and a sizable group of friends, finding a venue that could comfortably accommodate Ilse and Daniel's guest list was essential! The Brix offered plenty of room while still providing a distinctive backdrop for their celebration. We love how the industrial setting contrasted with their soft, romantic details!

Ilse and Daniel’s wedding palette blended classic sophistication with a playful pop of color. Yellow has always been Ilse’s favorite color, so incorporating it into the wedding felt like a natural choice! Still, when she realized butter yellow was becoming a popular wedding trend, she briefly wondered whether she should choose something different. “I remember telling my friends, ‘I don’t want to be basic like everyone else,’” Ilse shares. Her friends reminded her that yellow had always been her favorite and encouraged her to embrace the color she genuinely loved. And we're glad she listened! The soft yellow satin brought a romantic, cheerful touch to the wedding party while reflecting Ilse’s personality. Paired with classic black tuxedos, the palette felt timeless without sacrificing its sense of fun.

The floral design continued the elegant look with mostly white blooms and subtle touches of butter yellow. Candlelight played an equally important role throughout the reception. Butter-yellow taper candles added warmth and dimension to the tables, complementing the crisp white florals and creating a romantic glow against the venue’s industrial backdrop.

What We Love

We love how Ilse and Daniel incorporated personal details that reflected their relationship and sense of humor! Their cocktail napkins featured a screenshot of their first Hinge conversation, while a display of loved ones’ wedding photos welcomed guests with a sign reading, “To those who walked before us, remember that feeling?” They also added a playful surprise for engaged guests with “You’re next!” cards and Ring Pops, inspired by friends who had done the same at their wedding. And, of course, their late-night McDonald’s snack brought a favorite tradition into the celebration!

Advice from the Couple

Ilse encourages couples to say yes to the details that genuinely make them happy, even if they seem unnecessary or unconventional. From hiring a content creator to serving McDonald’s as a late-night snack, she’s glad they included the personal touches that made their wedding memorable. “Your wedding is the perfect excuse to include the little things that feel like you,” she shares.
