Since the pandemic, buffet style and family style meals seem to be a thing of the past and plated meals have become the popular choice. If you plan to offer multiple options for meal choices that require the need for wait staff to deliver meals to the table, we highly recommend a table place card. Although not required, place cards create order, aid guests in finding their seats and also allow for guests to learn each other's names.

This card typically displays guest names, as well as their table assignment and some kind of notation for meal choice. Whether it is a color dot, a graphic, or the actual word, the serving staff can quickly identify which food option you chose and seamlessly deliver food.

A few things to keep in mind when you're thinking about place cards and table settings

1. Each person should get their own card.

Do not put a couple on one card (even if they are getting the same food option).

2. What about my guest’s plus one?

If you don’t know the name of someone’s guest, just write the invited person’s name and the word “guest” (example: "Jane Doe's Guest").

3. ALWAYS choose a legible, bold font.

This makes life a little easier for your guests to find their seats, and also for your catering team as they are serving meals. Your stationery folks can help you make the best selection based on your invitation design!

4. Cue the crowd!

Ask your DJ to make an announcement when it's time to eat! When the DJ asks your guests to find their seats, have them mention to place their name card on the table so the staff knows what everyone is eating.
