The vision behind this “Romantic Whimsical Barn Wedding,” shoot came from the style shoot creative director, Leidy Fournier of Leidy and Josh Photography and Grand Rapids Styled Shoots. Leidy noticed that there was not a “go-to” place in the Grand Rapids area for wedding vendors to show their talent, and decided that had to change.
The concept of a “modern barn wedding with a romantic, feminine, and editorial flair,” was planted in her mind, and Leidy and Josh found that Gable Hill was the perfect setting. They say, “The venue owner, Jillian, was very gracious to allow us to use her space for anything we needed.” We absolutely adore that Leidy and Josh used a local venue to showcase their shooting talents!
The bride and groom seem to be glowing, and that’s not just a trick of the light. They explain, “The way Gable Hill is positioned allowed us to photograph the bride and groom during golden hour light as it set behind the wedding arch.” The team notes that there was a lot of time and effort dedicated to this shoot, which is why it looks so picture-perfect to us!
The rental pieces were dedicated to be vintage to keep the magic of stepping back in time alive. The team notes, “If you have ever wandered around an old barn, the discovery of a vintage item really adds to the charm and wonder of that barn.”
Leidy and Josh say, “A barn wedding is really popular in Michigan right now and it can be styled in so many different ways. But Leidy had yet to see a barn wedding that captured all the elements of a country wedding but still felt romantic, elegant and joyful. She wanted to create a barn wedding that really captured those elements which are the elements of their photography style. We love a country wedding that has a touch of magic to it, and this team pulled that off!
Blush and sage were the top colors that went with this shoot. Leidy and Josh chose them because of the neutral palette that worked well with the venue and the models. They say, “These colors were selected because they complemented the wedding venue’s ceiling drapery exceptionally well. This color palette has an aromatic feel to it and like the florals, are colors that a bride could use to recreate her own wedding day.”
There were weeks spent searching for the perfect dress to match this shoot. A princess-cut dress matched the whimsical yet elegant style of the shoot perfectly. Leidy and Josh note, “We fell in love with this dress because it was both elegant and timeless with a modern feel, which fit perfectly with the theme of the overall shoot.”
The vision Ashlee Arias of Lahontan Letterworks had for the stationery was minimalist, yet romantic. She says, “Sometimes, less is more.” Ashlee also wanted to use a type of stationery that would be affordable to a bride that didn’t have a large invitation budget, yet wanted that elegance. “These were printed on the most basic 110-pound cardstock out there, which is very budget-friendly for every bride. And when you have other inserts like a details card and RSVP card included you will still be able to ship it with only one (maybe two) stamp(s) which saves on postage costs. Invitations don’t have to break the bank to make a statement.”
Though this was the team's first style shoot, Leidy and Josh say that everything went swimmingly. They say, “All of the wedding vendors were extremely generous with their time and work. The wedding venue, Gable Hill, was the perfect venue for this styled shoot.”
