Before we even dive into this wedding, we just have to say - there is something for everyone to love. Mary and Patrick created one of the sweetest, most modern weddings we have every seen! They met back in 2015 in Chicago. They add, “Our story began on November 20, 2015; we were introduced through mutual friends at Woodie’s Flat, a bar in Old Town, Chicago. There was an instant connection both on and off the dance floor.” The two kept on dancing and started the adventure of a lifetime. From dinner dates to weekend getaways - they were soon falling in love.

Mary and Patrick were traveling around Thailand in April of 2018. Needless to say, this trip would be extra special. They say, “During the last leg of our vacation, we took a day trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 islands off Ko Samui and also the setting for ‘The Beach’. We kayaked and snorkeled around the islands and, lastly, hiked to the highest viewpoint of the mother island. Upon catching our breath from not only the view but the steep hike, heat and humidity, Patrick got down on one knee.” Mary said “yes” right away and the couple finished off their dream vacation.

The wedding planning soon started and the couple was not exactly sure about what they wanted. They did have a few ideas in mind. They knew they wanted a Catholic ceremony along with a celebration with their closest friends and family. They note, “ We remained very open throughout the planning process and our vision for our big day slowly adapted as we navigated what was most important to us!”

The couple ended up creating a dream, modern wedding with nods to a classic style. The style was also brought to life in Mary’s bridal look. She went with an elegant gown from BHLDN. She says, “I found this perfectly simple yet classic white gown at BHLDN – the first one I tried on!”

What we love

We love that Mary and Patrick limited their guest list and kept the wedding within the bounds of what was most important to them. They say, “The evening was shared with just our best man and maid-of-honor. The intimate setting allowed us to be truly present during our ceremony and vows.”

Advice from the couple

Mary and Patrick keep their advice straightforward, saying, “Make it about the two of you!”
