We are thrilled to announce the winner of WeddingDay’s first annual Style Shoot Design Contest! Our team oohed, aahed, gushed and raved over the amazing style shoots designed and submitted using the Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral, and one of our pre-selected themes: European, Alternative, The Elements, Southwestern or Ultra Modern. While this was a close call, we only had one winner.
Chrystin Melanie Photography and this talented team took us on a colorful wedding journey that made us feel like we were one with nature. They inspired us with their dramatic use of color and by maintaining an overall earthy theme which kept us enchanted from start to finish. That’s no surprise since they channeled Mother Earth herself while coming up with the inspiration for this shoot. Chrissy Marsman of Chrystin Melanie Photography says, “I was inspired by floral headpieces. I wanted huge florals. That led me to think about ‘Mother Nature’ but with a twist: she’s getting married. Her bridesmaids would be as if flowers.” Chrissy says she envisioned Mother Nature’s wedding party would ‘blossom’ with flower rings and hairpieces. The results were breathtaking!
We absolutely adore the team’s use of floral color and décor. For this shoot, Chrissy used coral peonies and dahlias, peach ranunculus, pincushion protea, sunset and circus roses, and much more to express this natural feeling on the page. The gentle flow of these colors from one to another made us want to run into our own enchanted garden!
The bride’s headpiece was designed to transform her into a nature goddess, from the gentle yet dramatic flowers to the soft vines dripping off her shoulders. Chrissy adds, “The models’ hair had to be intertwined with the floral headpieces. The bride’s headpiece was heavy but it was so gorgeous. For makeup, Amy of Veil of Grace Co. used as much peach and pink as possible to give more of that Living Coral vibe to the shoot.”
We love how consistent the theme of nature popped in this shoot, even on the models, from the bride herself down to the floral rings the bridesmaids wore. Chrissy’s attention to detail came in handy here. She says, “I think flower rings are the coolest thing. It’s so different. Also floral headpieces. It’s a great alternative to veils or bouquets. Really gives that uniqueness to a wedding day. I hope to see more brides go outside of their comfort zone and deck themselves out with florals. It’s so beautiful.” We think so, too!
While making the decision on where to have this shoot, Chrissy admits that it could have been easily done outside. But she wanted to rise to the challenge of shooting indoors and chose to add in a touch of her own personality at the New Vintage Place. “I wanted to push the boundaries. Add an industrial vibe. Give it a more modern take on the elements. When you think of ‘Element Earth’ perhaps most think of clay, dirt and desert, but I think of greens. I think of new beginnings — life. And that’s where I wanted to explore more.”
