While they were both hanging out at a bar close to DePauw University, Ella and Jack's friends decided to set them up as dates for Jack's fraternity formal. Since the night of the formal, they have been a happy couple! After graduation, they both moved back to Indianapolis where Jack got a job and Ella continued her medical schooling. In 2021, Jack took Ella by the Indy canal under the guise of meeting co-workers for lunch when Ella's family was waiting for them at the restaurant. "To my surprise, he had the photographers ready as he asked me to marry him outside of our first apartment together," Ella recalls. "It was the perfect day thanks to my now husband."

The fun thing about the bridal shop where Ella found her dress is that they carry designer bridal samples, so your dress is a fraction of the cost and you can take it home the same day you find it! "My dress was mermaid style with a silk bodice and ruched tulle bottom," Ella shares. "I have always pictured myself in a mermaid gown since I was a little girl—I love the drama of the silhouette and I think it shows off the best of everyone’s curves!" We love her addition of the silk gloves and crystal belt to add an air of elegance to this already stunning gown.

"I describe my style as a mixture of vintage, traditional and eclectic. I wanted my wedding to represent me, so this is exactly what I looked for when picking my theme and color palette," Ella admits. The venue actually influenced their color scheme thanks to the gold accents around the space. Jack and Ella ended up combining different shades of blue with gold, rust, copper, cream and ivory to create a stunning fall palette. They wanted the overall feel of their day to be opulent and elegant with a bit of romanticism. We think they achieved it perfectly!

Growing up in Evansville, Indiana fostered a sense of loyalty to local brands in Ella. "Being from a small town like Evansville, family and friends truly stick together and emphasize the importance of local business. Many of my vendors were chosen because of their reputation within the community and recommendations from family and friends," Ella explains. Therefore, many of Ella and Jack's vendors did everything in their power to help a local girl's wedding go off without a hitch!

What We Love

There were plenty of ways that Ella and Jack were able to customize the wedding experience for their guests. They both made custom gifts for their parents as well as a custom guest book with engagement photos to make it a memento for their relationship. To honor the love stories that came before theirs, Ella and Jack displayed their mom's wedding dresses and photos of their parents and grandparents at their reception. Jack also got a custom groom's cake that had a fondant look-a-like of his pooch, Archie. Something they chose for themselves was to have a sweetheart table for a moment alone during their reception.

Advice from the Couple

Ella and Jack advise, "Rely on your partner for help. You are planning on spending the rest of your lives together, so wedding planning is a great time to work together, practice patience and rely on one other’s strengths. Stay true to what YOU want for your big day. Everyone is going to have an opinion on every decision you make. Don’t let others sway you from something you have always dreamed of on your wedding day. No wedding is ever going to go perfectly. There will be bumps in the road, but just remember, you are your biggest critic, and your guests will be having too much fun to notice anything that goes wrong."
