Ana and Tyler met on Tinder and casually chatted over the next three weeks. Ana adds, “We had our first date three weeks after 'swiping right'. We took the time to spend those three weeks texting and getting to know each other that way. It happened like that by chance – we were both traveling a lot and didn’t coincide until then. By the time we met, we knew there was chemistry and the rest is history.” Ana and Tyler had an instant attraction and they knew that they were meant to be.
Ana accidentally ruined Tyler’s first proposal attempt. It was their two year anniversary of their first date and Tyler took Ana to the restaurant that they had their first date at. Tyler thought it would be romantic to take Ana for a walk after dinner where he would pop the question, but when he asked her to walk around, she said, “Are you crazy? I’m freezing, let’s go!”. Ana soon realized that Tyler may have been planning something. She says, “Two days later on Christmas Eve we had dinner at my parents’ house. On our way back to Kalamazoo he stopped at a local park that was decorated beautifully with lots of lights. He asked me to sit down on a freezing bench and that’s when I realized what was happening!”
When the planning started, Ana knew that she wanted to have a long engagement. This way, she and Tyler would have the time to enjoy being engaged and to plan their dream wedding. She says, “We were engaged for a year and a half and that took a lot of the stress of the planning away because we had time to think, make decisions calmly and wait for the right things. Date and venue were the first things we took care of. We decided early June because it’s almost summer, but it’s still not extremely warm.”
What we love
We love that Ana and Tyler had their wedding at a yacht club. This meant that they could celebrate at a location that they loved. Ana notes, “The venue couldn’t be any other than the South Haven Yacht Club (SHYC) because that is like our second home. We are members and so is all of Tyler’s family. We spend our summers there. Tyler is a big sailor so being on the water from May to September is natural.” Taking into mind that being on the water is truly their happy place, it was an obvious choice to have their wedding at the yacht club!
Advice from the bride
Ana says, “Get at least a day-of wedding coordinator and get a good one. I had nothing to worry about the week of the wedding, Kelly Kennedy and her two assistants from All Buttoned Up Events were like little fairies that made everything perfect!"
