You’ve never seen texture like this in this urban Grand Rapids style shoot! The idea came from Nikki, the owner of Veritas Event Design, who wanted to imagine a couple deviating from the norm with bold and rich Asian-inspired designs. “I envisioned the nuptials of a couple who was bold, stylish, fearless, yet regal,” she explains. “A couple that doesn’t want their wedding day to look like everyone else’s. A couple that draws inspiration beyond their own culture and appreciates a modern take on eastern treasures.”

Open steel structures, moody colors and hints of Asian influence helped the Knickerbocker become a perfect fit for the shoot. We love the originality of the living wall in their beer garden! “Knickerbocker makes a statement–it is grand, urban and organic all at the same time,” Nikki notes. “It has a big-city feel, a fitting look for the nuptials of a cosmopolitan couple–well traveled and inspired by global trends.”

The dress used in this shoot was beautiful enough to catch Nikki’s eye as she was driving by. “When I saw the dress in the window, I gasped and immediately turned around hoping I wasn’t just seeing things,” she says. “Upon confirming that what I saw was true, I marched right through the front door and asked if I could use it for a styled shoot. It felt like providence.” We love how the textiles of the first dress pair well with the modern feel of the second dress for one, well-rounded look!

That golden veil puts a special twist on the traditional white. Nikki notes this choice was done to keep this bride looking fashion-forward!

The overarching theme of this wedding is modern yet elegant. The rich colors used in this palette can be showcased during any season. We love how the touch of tropical plants keeps this wedding feeling one-of-a-kind. According to Nikki, being unique is a trend any bride can abide by. “It’s about flexing creative muscles and crafting visuals that communicate who you are as a couple,” she explains. “Don’t concern yourself too much with what everyone else is doing. Dream, instigate, go big, be brave. That’s what leaving a lasting impression for couples and guests is all about.”
