“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” -- Confucius
Well said, Confucius. Well said.
Across all cultures, generations and genres music is that one element that seems to cut through the black-and-white of it all and bring us together. Music certainly has an important place in your wedding day, and deserves some thought in your planning process.
Choosing songs for your Big Day will be either the most difficult or the easiest decision you will make in planning your wedding. Music is a big deal. You don't have to be a musician to understand or appreciate a song's ability to capture the perfect essence of a moment before you even know it yourself. We all have songs that remind us of different events or stages in our lives, favorite memories, not-so-favorite memories, seasons, times of day, people in our lives, and the list goes on and on. Because of this many of these songs begin to bear a special significance. The songs you choose for your wedding will forever be associated with the day (probably the most important in your life to date) and you'll want them to be ones that are significant to you.
In my seemingly endless browsing through wedding blogs and experience working ceremonies and receptions, I've come across some really beautiful, unexpected and interesting song choices. Below are some of my favorites and alternatives (in no particular order) to “Here comes the bride” and other wedding day standards.
