Elegant and simple were the exact ingredients Alysia and Steve wanted in their wedding. Plus, a great atmosphere, amazing food and great tunes...what could be better? For the two who met before high school, their love story would come full circle in 2014 when their lives intertwined again.
In Steve’s words:
“As she got older, it was her drive to succeed in anything she did that attracted me to her...her confidence in herself and, most of all, how beautiful inside and out she still was. I think we both had become better versions of ourselves in that time apart. When we were together the smiles, the laughter, the sense of comfort and butterflies were all still there.”
Their path to love led to a promise for forever.
In Alysia's words:
“Steve proposed September, 2016 on a weekend vacation to Traverse City. We took a bike wine tour around the peninsula and had a picnic lunch at Shady Lane Cellars. We sat Indian style on a hill underneath two trees, and I had a turkey Reuben in my lap. Steve promised to love and take care of me for the rest of my life. I said yes before he pulled the ring out of his pocket. Steve has this charismatic passion to life about him, he makes me laugh so hard I can't breathe, he knows how to calm me down when I'm being dramatic and he draws me in with his ‘googly eyes.’”
When the two casually began looking at venues online, they stumbled across the Planterra Conservatory. Alysia recalls, “As soon as we walked into the venue and stood by the ceremony arch the song that Steve wanted me to walk down the aisle to started playing over the speakers, Fade Into You by Mazzy Star. We knew it was fate.”
Alysia stumbled upon her gorgeous La Sposa from Barcelona dress from Bisou Bridal in Birmingham. The dress was originally a three quarter sleeve but the salon was able to fully lengthen the sleeves upon her request.
A few unique touches included personalized matchboxes, Fuji instant cameras for guests, late night popcorn and childhood photos placed on the backs of their chairs.
Alysia says, “The seating chart was extremely fun to create! I found different types of frames from different stores and printed the list of guest names to frame inside. After the wedding, when we received our wedding photos, we used the frames to frame photos for ourselves and family as gifts. Everyone loved having a piece of our special day to remember.
Advice From The Bride
Alysia says, “All of the stress of planning and trying to make things perfect doesn’t even matter on your wedding day. Embrace every smile from a loved one, every thoughtful word in the speeches, tears from your mom because this day is once in a lifetime and it goes by so fast.”
