If it would have taken Dane Sorensen any longer to figure out what Victoria Gonzalez was up to, she just might have failed physics class. It was fall of 2004 at Andrews University when Victoria first set her sights on Dane. For two weeks, she skipped physics class just so she could ask him for his notes, hoping he would ask her for a date. When he started getting annoyed with her, she handed him her phone number…ah, finally he understood! "It was a good thing we started dating because I think I would have gotten a really bad grade in physics because I couldn't read his handwriting," said Victoria.
From the beginning, Victoria knew Dane was different from most guys. His straightforward personality, honesty and intelligence attracted her right away. After spending more time with him, she also realized that he lived his life based on the same Christian values that were important to her. A bond grew quickly between them and it wasn't long before Dane predicted Victoria was the girl he would marry.
On July 8, 2007 his prediction came true in the International Friendship Gardens in Michigan City.
From the time Victoria was a little girl, she knew she wanted an outdoor wedding. "I fell in love with this place--it was very quaint, very beautiful," said Victoria. And on the particular day she chose for her outdoor wedding, it was also very hot--97 degrees to be exact. So Victoria and her bridesmaids, with the help of hair and makeup artists, battled the heat just to keep their hair from falling and makeup from running. While getting ready, Victoria remembers peeking through the tent to get a glimpse of Dane. "I wanted to see what he looked like," she said. "My sister kept teasing me that it was bad luck but I don't think so!"
The heat of the July summer day played a role in Dane and Victoria's dream outdoor wedding. And the much anticipated wedding night--well, it was hot, too, but not in the way you're thinking! Dane became very ill and ended up in the ER with a bad case of heat stroke. It wasn't until the following day when they arrived in Mexico for their honeymoon that he finally started feeling better. "I was robbed of my wedding night, but it was an incredibly beautiful and wonderful honeymoon," recalls Victoria.
