Most couples make the decision to get married after they have determined that they are simply meant to be. Sometimes it's the circumstances that tell us what's meant to be and sometimes it can only be described as a feeling. Such is the case with Luke and Brittney Schiller who met at a bar in downtown Indianapolis. They spent the entire night talking and dancing. Unfortunately, as serendipity would have it, Brittney was moving to Washington D.C. a month later. Even more unfortunate, Luke and Brittney parted ways before he had the opportunity (courage?) to ask her for her number. However, as fate would have it, Brittney had a nagging feeling about moving to D.C. and a few days after meeting Luke, she decided to stay in Indianapolis. That same day, Luke found her number and asked her on a date. And as they say, the rest is history. And lucky for us, too, because we're big fans of this wedding at Scottish Rite Cathedral!

The details
"I had no idea what I wanted going into wedding planning! I didn't grow up dreaming of what my wedding would look like and I never really paid any attention to the details in the weddings we had been to," laughs Brittney. "In a way, this was a blessing and curse—I was open to anything, but I had a lot of research to do!" With an open mind, Brittney resorted to Pinterest and bridal magazines. She started with venue research and the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis was the second venue she toured. Brittney says she was absolutely taken with the stunning and elegant ballroom, the surrounding balcony, the high ceilings, gold accents and ornate chandeliers.
Once their venue and date were secured, Brittney and Luke hired the remainder of their vendors based on not only the talents of each vendor, but by how much they felt they could trust each vendor to carry out their vision. That trust allowed them to rely on their vendors for inspiration and recommendations. Brittney says that was important to her because she is indecisive and would not consider herself an avid D.I.Y.'er. She even let Luke decide on the colors used in the wedding. "This was one choice I just didn't want to have to make! Luke said he wanted to have blue, so we did a quick search on Pinterest and immediately found a navy and gold wedding we really liked," says Brittney. "We thought the gold would work perfectly with the colors of the Scottish Rite ballroom, so we went with it!"
Brittney's wedding dress was one decision she wasn't willing to let Luke weigh in on! She knew she wanted a simplistic gown with lace and cap sleeves. She was impressed by the selection at M.H. Pomander's, a gown boutique in downtown Indianapolis that carries couture gowns by world-renowned designers. The dress she walked out with was by Australian designer Modern Trousseau.
Luke and Brittney's florist The Empty Vase took the initiative to design bouquets and centerpieces that accented the navy and gold colors with touches of ivory and blush. The florist created the floral decor with Juliette garden roses, dahlias, spray roses, ranunculus, hydrangeas and football mums. The centerpieces were a variation of short and tall floral arrangements.
what we love
As much as we love our brides who are consumed with the details and the planning, we love the brides who leave it to their vendors to bring creative expression to the wedding! That's what we loved about this wedding because it truly shows up in the results. Not to mention, shimmery gold and navy will always get us excited and it was evident that the color scheme paired well with the venue.
