When Evan moved to Indianapolis from Virginia for work, he faced not knowing anyone in the area. Lucky for him, a little bit of loneliness was short-lived. He went to Rock Bottom Brewery one evening and ran into Megan. She says, “After meeting that first night, we instantly knew we had a connection and we were inseparable ever since!” The two truly never looked back after that! Evan went above and beyond when it came to the proposal. He left a note on Megan’s door saying to get ready for a night out. The couple went downtown where a horse and carriage were waiting. After a romantic carriage ride, they got off at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Megan says, “We went to the monument and were standing on it and looking over a ledge. I turned around and he was on his knee! It was a very sweet and romantic night and the perfect proposal!”
Megan and Evan enjoyed a long engagement, giving themselves time to celebrate before the planning started. Megan is really close with her mom, so she became her go-to person for all the planning. The couple started with choosing a venue—which turned out to be The Scottish Rite Cathedral (a place that they had passed during that carriage ride the night Evan proposed!). Some things are simply meant to be! Megan knew it was the perfect place, too. “We loved that it lights up at night and we knew that the ballroom was the perfect place to make our fairytale wedding come true," she says.
Once Megan teamed up with planner, Brittany O’Connor, of Ooh La La Events, the planning process became a breeze. Megan used many of Brittany’s recommendations for vendors. One vendor Megan knew she NEEDED to be there on her wedding day was Jessica Strickland of Jessica Strickland Photography. Megan had seen Jessica’s work and had her heart set on Jessica photographing her own wedding.
Megan actually found her dress in Florida, of all places. She says, “I bought my dress at The Perfect Dress in Sarasota, Florida. My parents have a vacation home in Florida and it has always been a place that we spent time together on breaks and holidays. I knew that it would be the perfect place to go dress shopping with my mom and it was the only dress shop that I went to! It is actually funny. I picked the first dress I tried on.” Megan was very lucky as all the pieces fell into place!
The color scheme of the wedding was Megan's favorite color, purple (as is should be!). The couple also wanted a glam wedding that would be unforgettable. The details were all pulled together to make their dreams come true. Megan says, “There were so many small touches that my planner added (like purple water in the flower vases!) that I loved. We also put fresh flowers on our cake in our lavender color. The uplighting was purple and we had drapes that really made the room feel dramatic and fancy.”
Advice from the bride
Megan knows that there is no reason to sweat the small stuff. Her dreams came true when Evan promised a lifetime with her. Beyond that, the other things were simply extras! She says, “Not every flower is going to be the perfect shade of purple you want, and there are some things you just have to let go. Focus on the important parts of your wedding (like your groom!) and enjoy this time in your life, because it is very exciting!”
Megan also says that WeddingDay inspired her along the way. “I have seen some features of weddings that WeddingDay Magazine did, and they were beautiful. I definitely found inspiration from beautiful photos and stories they posted on the website!”
