Melinda and Troy’s engagement story was oh-so-sweet. Melinda explains, “He took my son and I to a secluded log cabin on Dale Hallow Lake. There was a big deck in the back where my son had lined out and lit hundreds of candles. In the middle of the deck was an outline of a heart where Troy led me, got on one knee and proposed. Ethan (my son) videoed the entire thing.”
Because this was a second marriage for the couple, they both wanted to create a wedding they really envisioned and have always dreamt of. Melinda says sweetly, “It definitely wasn’t everyone’s dream wedding, but it was mine and I loved everything about it.”
When the couple ended up buying property, it was a no brainer to have their wedding on their own farm. Melinda says, “From the moment I met with Jillian from Frame Worthy Events, I was in love all over again. She recommended a photographer and caterer that she thought would be fitting, and again I met with them. It was the end of the road on hunting.”
The bride says, “I wanted pumpkins and mums! But I wanted to grow them myself. That wasn’t the best idea as they were pretty small but they did make it into the wedding. Brown County is known for the fall foliage, and that was what I wanted to be the focus as well as our beautiful setting that we are blessed to call home. The leaves held off on turning and looked outstanding. We worked for a solid year to get the property cleaned up and landscaped just for the big day, and all the hard work and sweat was so worth it as we will be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor for so many years to come. My husband built an outdoor kitchen/bar just for the wedding, and it turned out so amazing. We still spend most of our time out there enjoying nature and cooking.”
Editor’s note: Would you believe the bouquets were D.I.Y.-ed by the bride and her planner from Hobby Lobby selections? It goes to show how the right picks and palette can lend itself to a gorgeous aesthetic.
Advice From the Bride
“Enjoy your day! Even though this was my second wedding it was still my happily ever after. I wanted my dream wedding, and I got it. I was lucky enough to have the wedding staff I did and was able to enjoy every aspect of the day. We had fun, and that is what all that hard work and planning was for. Yes, it all does go by very fast but slow down, have fun, take it all in....you are allowed to and you should.”
What We Love
This bride says, “Who doesn’t know about WeddingDay Magazine and lives in Indiana? I looked at a lot of wedding pictures from the magazine to get more and more ideas for a fall wedding and ideas that I may have not thought about. I love the fact that it is local weddings and hometown people featured so there are a ton more ideas that hit home rather than looking in magazines that show weddings fitting for a New York life style. I wanted elegant yet down-home and that is exactly what WeddingDay reminds me of and therefore was my go-to on the magazine front.”
