Just what the doctor ordered: An Urban, Modern Wedding
Sable and Matt fell in love with surgery as medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine. They became friends and an important part of each other’s support system – through hard rotations, difficult exams, and the trials of learning to be a doctor. During the four years of intense training, the two realized their love went far beyond post-op.
The Proposal
Matt proposed to Sable at Iozzo’s Garden of Italy in Indianapolis in the courtyard where they had their first date two years earlier. This time, the patio was covered with snow, but that didn’t deter Matt. After the proposal, he had arranged for family members and close friends to celebrate with them at an intimate engagement dinner.
Their Advice to Brides
Spend time finding a photographer and videographer who work well together as these will be the people you spend most of your day with (aside from your spouse and bridal party) and you should be comfortable around them.
The Dress
Sable was lucky enough to find the dress at the first place she looked. “I remember thinking, there’s no way that it’s this easy to find the perfect dress! So we put it back and continued looking, but my mind kept coming back to it.” With the accessories added, she said the Enzoani Finley was the perfect mix of “feminine and fashion forward.”
The Color Palette
Gray was the anchoring neutral tone and other colors were layered onto that. For instance, Sable’s bridesmaid found the gold dresses that brought romance and glamour to the occasion. Accent colors of blush and garnet were added to round out the palette and soften it a bit.
The Look
The couple wanted the aesthetic of the celebration to be based on “urban romance,” incorporating modernity with a timeless, romantic feel. Their planner said it was a “dream” to work with them because of Sable’s terrific style and their incredible love and support for each other and their families.
Favorite Moment
“We wrote our own vows for the ceremony and one of our favorite moments was hearing how much those vows meant to the people who had gathered to support us, as well as hearing them for the first time ourselves,” Sable said.
Specialists
The two are both training at Kansas University Medical Center for the next five years. She is pursuing urology and he will be an Otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist).
What We Love
The “Jayhawk Down” Signature Drink to recognize their new medical residency in Kansas and personalized welcome kits presented to guests upon their arrival to the Circle City.
The Ceremony
Sable and Matt hoped to have a tried-and-true ceremony with some modern twists. It was based on a traditional format but featured contemporary music played on an acoustic guitar as well as the reading of poetry and Bible verses.
The Flowers
Sable’s bouquet popped with ivory and blush shades of pink and peach, and was filled with roses, hydrangeas, peonies, ranunculus, garden roses, freesia, hints of geranium leaf and some dusty miller.
The white, low, modern ceramic vases on the reception tables were filled with roses, hydrangeas, peonies, lisianthus, a bit of lamb’s ear, seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller. The same colors used in the bride’s bouquet were utilized, adding garnet and gold votives for a sparkly, shimmery atmosphere.
The Cakes
The cakes were a combination of delicious and amazing: almond with apricot filling; lemon with strawberry filling and a classic white wedding cake with buttercream frosting. Sable said they were so good, she had a piece of each!
