The Vision

You’ll get carried away in the elegant atmosphere of this modern and whimsical shoot. Emily Salomon, owner of Southwest Michigan planning company Connolly House Events, wanted to push the boundaries of color by using Classic Blue, the Pantone Color of the Year. “Instead of exaggerating either aesthetic, my goal was to subtly tie together both modern and whimsical elements through textures, florals and shapes,” she says. “I want couples who are in the midst of planning or replanning their wedding to see just how beautiful a backyard intimate wedding can be.” Husband and wife photographer duo and owners of Southwest Michigan photography team, Leidy and Josh Photography, captured every detail of this gorgeous shoot.

The Venue

Farrand Hall is a dreamy farmhouse tucked away in the countryside of Colon, Michigan. It was the perfect choice for this shoot because of its unique historical atmosphere and expansive outdoor space. Emily explains, “As couples everywhere are having to reimagine their weddings, I’ve seen many turn to intimate backyard receptions. I wanted this shoot to reflect real weddings that are happening right now across the country, and Farrand Hall showcases how elegant and high-end a backyard wedding can really be while still bringing in that intimate and familiar element that I adore so much.”

The Florals

The soft spoken floral arrangements have a lot to say about color. Grand Rapids florist Cass and Jean Flower Co. hand-dyed orchids Classic Blue to seamlessly tie the florals in to the shoot’s light and airy color scheme. By highlighting lesser used flowers such as baby’s breath and carnations, the team created an organic style that captures natural grace.

The Look

Just one dress wasn’t enough for this shoot--Holland, Michigan bridal boutique Spring Sweet provided two gowns for this shoot to shine. The first gown’s whimsical silhouette has a gorgeous ethereal look, while the second is sleek, simple and totally modern. The model’s hair and makeup, styled by Teal Dempsey of Wild Emerald Bridal, gives us sleek, romantic vibes. The pearl jewelry and headpiece tops off this elegant look! Paired with the groom's classy attire from The Groomsman Suit, this couple looks sharp as ever!

The DÉcor

The atmosphere of this whimsical shoot was topped off by the combination of modern and vintage décor provided by Eden Woods Wedding Rentals. Church pews and an antique pulpit were added to cultivate a traditional look in the ceremony. The wooden crossback chairs blend a special earthiness into the reception to incorporate the backyard setting, while the coffee table books, accent items and jewelry boxes brought a personal touch.

The Cake & Desserts

This cake makes a big statement with brushstrokes of Classic Blue! Lowell, Michigan bakery Deirdre's Cakes & Bakes not only incorporated the color scheme into her three-tiered confection, but also created scrumptious, stylized geometric cookies. The hand-painted detail on these cookies makes them look almost too good to eat!
