A Whimsical Orchard Style Shoot in Detroit, Michigan

The scenic landscape of Michigan is appealing to many brides, but orchards are often overlooked as one of the most beautiful landscapes within the region. Megan McPhail, owner and designer of Mitten Weddings and Events set out to show off how gorgeous orchard weddings truly are. She partnered with Shanell Photography and Blakes' Orchard and Cider Mill to pull-off a dreamy, Michigan-style wedding.
 

Shanell says, “I selected Blake's Apple Orchard because I absolutely love springtime with the blooms. I also thought the sun setting behind the trees would be outstanding with all the blooms showing. Being a film photographer, natural light is super important so I knew that I wanted a location that would be best to let my film work its magic.”
 

"Our entire shoot was based around these gorgeous apple blossoms, soft and romantic with feminine touches,” says Megan. “Apple trees bloom for less than one week in Michigan. We wanted everything to feel light and airy while capturing our real couple’s candid moments with bountiful blooming trees.” The team went for a light, delicate color palette with whimsical touches that would create an overall fantastical feel.
 

One of the main focal-points for the shoot was the archway. Megan says, “The floral arch was a passport into our blossom paradise. The circular arch atop the aisle way into the orchard featured greenery layered with roses, stock, and Lisianthks. We also added some beautiful apple blossoms.” Another feature that completed the shoot were the pieces of furniture. Megan adds, “Custom furniture lined the apple trees for a romantic oasis for the couple to sip on Blake’s Hard Cider and take in the breathtaking views.”
 

Another feature that cannot be missed was the stationery. Megan says, “I really wanted to show couples the many ways they could utilize a calligrapher. Cali O'Rourke Calligraphy puts romantic touches on unique love quotes.” The love quotes can be seen on the guest table and Cali’s calligraphy skills are also highlighted on a custom scroll featuring a favorite poem of the team.
