Elizabeth Young, of Iris and Mayfair, came up with the idea for this stunning style shoot back when she planned her own wedding before COVID. "I always thought that a dreamy, celestial theme for a wedding could feel really beautiful and special," Elizabeth shares. "I ended up going in a different direction when planning my own wedding, but the idea always stuck around and popped back up when I was inspired to plan a content day with other creatives in my community."
"The venue has walls of windows with great lighting, which created a beautiful backdrop for the airy, ethereal concept for the shoot. I was also excited about the concrete floors, big white doors and industrial touches. It felt like a perfect fit," Elizabeth raves. Since the original idea had morphed into two unique but cohesive ideas—an ethereal boho elopement and a disco bride—the venue provided the best backdrop for the two concepts to grow and blend together.
The celestial colors are what brought this shoot to life. Elizabeth explains, "I was inspired to create a dreamy celestial color palette with dusty blues, light pink and light purple, with touches of gold, silver and black. This palette set the tone for soft, ethereal vibes and tied into every detail of the shoot." Even the florals were inspired by nebulas! Knowing her own inventory, Elizabeth brought many of the rentals herself including the table settings, candles, mirrors and the crescent moon ceremony arch. Vintage furniture and details tied the whole shoot together including the ever-trending disco balls!
"The elopement dress felt like it was made for this shoot," Elizabeth admits. "I had a very specific vision for this dress—non-traditional, flowy, ethereal—and I found exactly what I was envisioning." The retro bride was also non-traditional and much flashier than the elopement dress. As for hair and makeup, the theme neutral and natural lets the brides' natural beauty shine through. We think both brides bring so much beauty to their side of the shoot.
We feel like we're floating into outer space with that amazing three-tiered cake. "The contemporary silhouette, hand-painted ethereal movement, and textures of the cake, in partnership with the hand-sculpted sugar floral arrangement, evoke a magical experience that perfectly captures the artistic allure of the cosmic," Elizabeth gushes. Try not to fall into the black hole as you admire the gorgeous details of this confection!
