Eighth grade. Eighth grade! That's when Brittany Turley met Aaron Arndt. Within two months of their first introduction, seventh grader Aaron totally fell for Brittany, the upperclassman and the two began a nine-year relationship before Aaron proposed. The wedding date was the most pivotal detail for Brittany. The details including the venue would center around on the 14th day of the month. Not only did Aaron and Brittany meet on the 14th (of September), but Brittany's parents also have their anniversary on the 14th. May 14th was secured after Brittany and her mom found two perfect venues, one for the ceremony and one for the reception.
the details
From the beginning, Brittany knew she wanted to get married in a barn. For the ceremony, she was floored by the beauty of the Historic Pentwater Barn in Valparaiso, Indiana. "The moment I saw this barn, I knew this was the place I wanted to walk down the aisle and marry the love of my life," says Brittany. When it came to the reception venue, Brittany admired the rustic theme, brick walls and fireplace of Wicker Park Banquet Hall in Highland. As for the rest of their wedding vendors, Aaron and Brittany selected them based on their personal relationships with them or from recommendations.
According to Brittany, the planning process was smooth sailing, thanks in large part, to her mother. "My mom pretty much did all of the planning. She did all of the budgeting. She created a notebook full of everything," says Brittany. She also says that it helped to have had a year and a half to plan.
The decor for both the ceremony and reception included a mixture of D.I.Y. projects and vendor creations. Flowers located throughout the reception and in the bouquets included peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, baby's breath, dahlias, garden daisies, carnations, roses, eucalyptus, hydrangeas and football mums. The gorgeous display of colors accented the wood and neutrals of their rustic spaces.
Aaron and Brittany created a remembrance board that showcased photographs of their loved ones that had passed away. Brittany and her dad also created the altar and arch that was used for the ceremony, while Brittany's mom made the candle holders for the reception.
And as for Brittany's dress, she wore an Allure Bridal Model 9215 that she found at Le Salon in Valparaiso. "When I was at the salon, I tried this dress on and I loved it. The back is what really did it," explains Brittany. "When I was walking away, I turned around to look at myself walking in it and it took my breath away and made me tear up!" Her decision was solidified when both her mom and sister cried after seeing her in it.
what we love
Um...that cake! Brittany and Aaron's three-tiered wedding cake by Calumet Bakery is simple-yet-stunning! We also fell in love with the hanging floral chandeliers and how the couple dressed up the ceremony space—something that is usually overlooked in weddings!
