What better way to meet and eventually fall in love than to some sweet lyrics of a favorite song? On one such fateful karaoke night at a local bar in town, Lindsey fondly remembers her first time meeting Logan. “We had mutual friends,” she says, “but I think before that we had never technically met. He sang ‘Johnny B Goode’ and I sang ABBA.” Fast forward to Christmas day 2015 when the couple was celebrating at Logan’s house. “That evening we sat down to watch Home Alone,” says Lindsey. “Right when the Wet Bandits had Kevin cornered at the top of the stairs, the movie cut out. Spliced into the middle of the scene was a five-minute video of all our friends and family, reading me all the reasons Logan loved me. I knew immediately what was happening, so I started crying, and not in a cute way. At the end of the video, my friend Jordan instructed me to go to the front room because ‘Logan had something to ask me’. I went into the other room, and it was filled with candles, and there was Logan, on his knee."
From the start, two major parts of the planning easily fell into place. Lindsey explains, “Logan works at our church and I work at Two EE’s Winery where we held the reception. We knew we didn’t want it to be high maintenance or over-the-top. I love antiques and garage sales and hunting for beautiful things. Our house is full of vintage planters and old books, so it was natural for me to decide to use as many vintage pieces as possible for the décor.” While Lindsey found herself inspired by Pinterest and the things she found, she was also influenced by other weddings and friends who had wed. Some of her must-have items included a short ceremony, dancing, warm lighting and wine. “I knew I didn’t want a big heavy dress, expensive food, or high heels,” she says. However, budget and time also dictated what was available. There was only a short window of time between the winery closing to the public and the reception beginning. To help keep track of everything, Logan was also very involved with the planning, making good use of a spreadsheet!
Guided by their vision of a perfect wedding, Lindsey and Logan were drawn to the warmth and inviting feelings they got from both the church and the winery’s patio. They also wanted to feel comfortable with those helping them to plan their big day and felt lucky to be able to incorporate their creative and generous friends into their planning. Lindsey explains, “Instead of having to look through the portfolios of a ton of hair stylists or DJ’s, I was privileged to already know exactly who to ask and know that they were going to do wonderfully. Like, Rachel, my photographer, for instance, who had been my friend for years and who had shot me before. Not only did I know she was a great photographer, but I knew she was great at photographing me, making me comfortable, communicating with me, etc. So most of those decisions were actually very easy."
Lindsey fell in love with her reception dress from BHLDN. Unfortunately it was sold out online but she was lucky enough to find it on Ebay, guessed at the size and she found it to be perfect, pretty and comfortable. Extra special touches included a necklace her mother wore for her own wedding and custom handkerchiefs, embroidered by her friend Leslie, that said “no ugly crying”. They were so cute, in fact, that the bridal party, Logan and the bride’s parents all received one!
The personal touches, quite literally hand-picked by Lindsey, can be seen throughout the decor. Form the wildflowers she gathered and chose for the head table to all of the food prepared the day before, we feel this wedding’s ambiance and setting is quite intimate and exudes the warmth the couple loved. Lindsey comments, “I love the way a wildflower field looks; it doesn’t really have a color scheme, it’s just all these different colors that are somehow cohesive. That’s how I brought together every piece of the wedding. It definitely was not rigidly thematic or color-coordinated, but all together, I think it blended and flowed nicely. I used lots of brass and gold, but beyond that, the colors were just “jewel-toned” along with natural greens, which encompasses a lot.
What we love
Although Lindsey regrets not trying the strawberry rhubarb pie or having a petting zoo at her reception, she loved that their thriftiness paid off in a splendid day she believes will be very much remembered by guests. She also loves the extra special touches like the lovely vows Logan wrote that brought the house to tears. Her advice to brides is that you can shave down on areas like food and drink, if needed. " A cash bar is fine," she says. "No one will be offended if they have to buy their own drinks." Lastly, she relied on her friends to help in some areas of their day and it showed. She says,"...knowing everyone who worked at our wedding and on our wedding made it feel like everyone we loved was gathered around us, pouring into our lives.”
