Who doesn’t love a photo shoot that truly tells a story—especially one as beautiful as this? Inspired by Logan Square’s newest event venue, The Joinery, Alexandria Odekirk Photography and Dotted Events joined their talented forces to design a photo shoot “full of story, whimsy and details.”
“The couple we are featuring met in Panama several years ago during study abroad,” Alexandria explains. “They loved our concept—a wedding that expresses their love of vintage and casual-chic styles.” She adds, “We added some touches of Latin American flair to showcase how they met, which served as the appropriate background for our shoot! In our current cultural climate, I personally believe travel is a big influence. I have always felt people who want to experience the world and other cultures are so much more accepting and open to everyone—how it should be!"
The Joinery’s modernized yet old vibes provided the perfect look and feel the team was going for. Located in Logan Square, the repurposed building perfectly fit the vintage theme. “The ceremony is full of old suitcases, and we utilized old machinery in the Joinery to display different aspects of the wedding,” says Erin Daubert, Owner and Lead Event Planner for Dotted Events, a Chicago-based wedding and event planning company. “For example‚ the couple’s bucket list (a place where family and friends write out where they should go) was placed on an old machine. The bar is on top of an old filing system!”
While the shoot took place in winter, the Latin American inspiration is evident in the subdued colors and pops of red, pink and deep woods hues.
And as for that lovely, vintage dress, it comes from Silver Moon, one of the largest sellers of vintage wedding dresses in the country. “We had the privilege of taking the bride there for a fitting,” says Erin. “The owner, Liz Meyer, has a wonderful eye and one of the dresses was the perfect one for the look we were going for! It also fit our bride to the T.”
Handmade by Sweet Melissa Desserts, the cake and desserts “took the theme to a whole new level,” according to Erin. ”Inspired by the Latin American theme, she crafted Dulce de Leche Tarts, Mexican Wedding Cookies and Brigadeiro Shooters,” Erin says. “She also created a custom cake that was to die for...Chocolate Horchata Stout Cake.”
